Overview
Momo is a fleet girl representing the fourth ship of the Matsu-class destroyers in Kantai Collection. Self-identifying as the idol of the destroyer division, she approaches her duties with high energy and an idol-like persona. Introduced during the Spring 2021 Event, she features a bright, bubbly demeanor and unique speech habits, often replacing standard military terms with entertainment industry jargon.
Appearance
Momo has long pink hair with a green gradient at the tips, styled into twintails with black ribbons and an ahoge on top. She has red eyes with star-shaped highlights and a noticeable single fang. Her outfit features a khaki sailor top worn over a black corset with an anchor zipper pull, a green striped bowtie, a red houndstooth cloth tied at her waist, a gray pleated skirt, a bracelet with a lifebuoy pattern on her right wrist, white thighhighs, and black rudder footwear. Her rigging consists of a back-mounted funnel and foremast, a handheld single gun mount, torpedo tubes strapped to her right leg, and depth charges on her left leg.
Personality
She possesses a lively, enthusiastic, and intentionally cute personality. Momo naturally speaks in idol terminology, referring to the admiral as her manager and fleet organization as a casting schedule. Unlike her sister ships who accept simple meals, she prefers modern dishes such as pancakes, sandwiches, and dorias. While she talks in a casual tone, she maintains proper respect and polite language toward her senior fleet members.
Abilities
In combat, Momo uses a handheld single gun mount, four-tube torpedo launchers fitted on her right leg, and depth charges on her left leg. During naval gun battles, she fires while dramatically shouting her signature attack phrase, "Momo Beam!"
Background
She arrived as the fourth member of the Matsu-class destroyers. Standing out from her more understated sisters with her glamorous idol ambitions, she brings a distinct atmosphere to the naval base. Initially unaware of Naka's reputation as the fleet's established idol, she formally apologized upon learning of their senior-junior relationship and accepted Naka's guidance for her idol activities.
Relationships
Momo is the fourth ship of the Matsu class, relating to her eldest sister Matsu and other sister ships. She addresses the Admiral cheerfully, treating them akin to her personal producer or manager. Upon discovering that the light cruiser Naka was her senior in the fleet, Momo showed proper deference and followed her instructions regarding idol work. She also addresses senior ships like Ise and Hyuuga with friendly yet respectful honorifics.
Trivia
Her distinct hair color gradient and visual design have led to fan comparisons with characters from other works illustrated by the same artist. Additionally, a destroyer bearing her name appears in a classic American submarine film.
