Overview

Hayasui is a fleet oiler character appearing in Kantai Collection. Modeled after the historical aviation-capable oiler of the Imperial Japanese Navy, she holds the distinction of being the first playable resupply ship introduced in the game. Characterized by an outfit reminiscent of an athletic team manager, she fulfills a specialized auxiliary role focused on supporting fleet resupply operations.

Appearance

She appears as a mid-teenage girl with medium-length black hair and grey eyes. Her outfit consists of a white track jacket worn over a red-lined gym shirt, a black pleated miniskirt, navy knee-high socks, and brown loafers. Her rigging, secured by shoulder belts, features a bow section with a single gun mount on one side and a flight deck equipped with a catapult on the other, alongside a fuel tank on her waist. Upon remodeling, a Ryuusei plane rests on her catapult. Seasonal variants include a jersey outfit making double peace signs and a Christmas outfit featuring a red fur-trimmed jacket, black tights, and gloves.

Personality

Hayasui possesses a polite, earnest, and dedicated demeanor. She refers to herself by name and addresses the player warmly. Reflecting a modest background, she treats simple meals like omelet rice or steak as rare, special luxuries. She holds an enthusiastic attitude toward seasonal festivities and events, engaging in them with a bright and cheerful smile.

Abilities

Hayasui features low base stats with an unusual resupply profile: heavy fuel consumption comparable to Nagato-class battleships paired with light ammunition consumption. She can equip small guns, radars, drum canisters, landing craft, sonars, and resupply items, though equipping resupply gear reduces her armor. When facing submarines, she prioritizes anti-submarine warfare. Following her remodel, she gains the ability to carry torpedo bombers such as the Ryuusei. Equipping these plane types shifts her shelling calculation to match aircraft carriers, allowing her to deal massive damage. However, her plane slots are exceptionally small, making her vulnerable to total aircraft loss or damage incapacitation.

Background

Hayasui was introduced in August 2015 as a clear reward during the limited-time event Counterattack! The Second Operation SN, marking the arrival of the first player-side resupply ship in the game. She was later made obtainable as a drop in regular high-difficulty sea areas. Her background reflects the historical oiler constructed with aviation capabilities following the lessons of the Battle of Midway, granting her a unique hybrid operational role within the game.

Relationships

Hayasui maintains historical ties to the aircraft carrier Taiyou, mentioning her in reference to their shared final battle, as well as her unimplemented sister ship Kazahaya. In naval base life, she notes the lively late-night activities of the Third Torpedo Squadron. Additionally, she is showcased alongside carrier-related fleet members such as Zuikaku in connection with event-themed appearances.

Trivia

Her name originates from the Hayasui Strait, located at the western entrance of the Seto Inland Sea. Due to the literal reading of her name, she is occasionally the subject of double entendres within the fan community. Additionally, her unique ability to deal massive carrier-style damage with torpedo bombers inspired the popular fan nickname Hayasui Ryuuseiken (Hayasui Meteor Punch).
