Overview

Kiyoshimo is a shipgirl from Kantai Collection, modeled after the 19th and final vessel of the Imperial Japanese Navy's Yuugumo-class destroyers. Energetic and optimistic, she stands out for her firm belief that she can eventually transform into a battleship due to her intense admiration for larger capital ships.

Appearance

She features knee-length hair with a dual-color scheme—grey on the outside and deep blue on the inside—styled into a single top hair bun flowing into low twintails bound by a pale yellow ribbon, complete with an ahoge and a hair strand falling between her grey-brown eyes. Her right sideburn extends down to her chest. She wears the standard Yuugumo-class school uniform consisting of a white shirt under a purple-maroon halterneck dress, paired with a teal-blue bowtie, opaque pantyhose, and lace-up boots. Her equipment includes back-mounted rigging, a hand-held 12.7 cm twin gun mount, and thigh-strapped torpedo tubes, complemented by small Type 3 depth charges and launchers on her waist, as well as shoulder straps with a yellow-to-yellow-green gradient.

Personality

She possesses a cheerful, carefree, and energetic personality, though she can be somewhat airheaded and prone to over-exerting herself. Highly affectionate and casual toward the Admiral, she frequently seeks praise and attention. When her dream of becoming a battleship is challenged, she shows a stubborn, childish side, firmly insisting on her potential.

Abilities

As a late-stage Yuugumo-class vessel, she possesses slightly superior base stats compared to standard destroyers. She excels in anti-submarine warfare, coming equipped with high-tier sonar equipment like the Type 3 Active Sonar upon her initial remodel, and gains enhanced capabilities in anti-air and anti-submarine operations through her Kai Ni remodels.

Background

Commissioned as the last vessel of the Yuugumo class, her historical counterpart served in transport and escort missions during late-war operations, participating in the rescue of survivors from the battleship Musashi before being lost in Operation Rei-Go. In Kantai Collection, her character arc centers around her comedic yet earnest determination to grow into a battleship, a narrative featured across game events, animated adaptations, and stage plays.

Relationships

She holds immense reverence for all battleship shipgirls, addressing them as revered elder sisters, with a particularly special bond toward Musashi. She forms a close camaraderie with the Italian destroyer Libeccio, as both share the dream of becoming battleships. She looks up to the class's first ship, Yuugumo, while maintaining a friendly rivalry, and enjoys warm, protective relationships with Kasumi, Asashimo, Ashigara, and Ooyodo. The destroyer Take also regards her as a dependable senior.

Trivia

The recurring fan depiction of her attempting to equip heavy battleship armaments or undergoing absurd modernizations to transform into a capital ship is widely known within the community under the concept of 'Great Battleship Kiyoshimo'. She has also received special seasonal artwork for events such as Setsubun and the rainy season.
