Appearance
She features medium-length fox-brown hair tied into twintails with large yellow ribbons, a prominent single ahoge at her center parting, and eyes of the same brown shade. Her attire consists of a white shirt under a dark greyish-green vest, paired with a green neck ribbon and white gloves. She wears a matching mini-skirt over black bike shorts, a faint matcha-green double belt, white high socks, and reddish-brown loafers. Her rigging attaches at the waist with a bridge-shaped base unit, extending mechanical arms for a twin high-angle gun and a quadruple torpedo mount, complemented by a hand-held twin gun and thigh-mounted anti-aircraft guns.
Personality
Bright, cheerful, and approachable, Kagerou possesses a lively personality with a slightly playful streak. Despite her easygoing demeanor, she maintains strong personal boundaries and can become genuinely upset if teased excessively. She exhibits a shy side, such as giving Valentine's chocolates with repeated hesitation, and tends to brush off overly serious or heavy topics. She is naturally caring and skilled in cooking, often sharing meals with her younger sister ships.
Abilities
Reflecting her class specifications, she possesses base statistics that are generally higher than those of standard destroyers. When used as modernization material in her base form, she uniquely increases firepower, torpedo, and armor stats simultaneously. She is also capable of undergoing further remodeling into her Kai Ni form.
Background
Historically, she was originally assigned to the 18th Destroyer Division alongside Arare, Kasumi, and Shiranui, participating in numerous naval operations starting from the Attack on Pearl Harbor. Later reassigned to the 15th Destroyer Division with Kuroshio and Oyashio, she engaged in supply transport runs until suffering heavy mine damage off Kolombangara, eventually drifting and sinking. She also serves as the main protagonist in the official novelization series.
Relationships
As the eldest sister of the Kagerou class, she looks after her numerous younger siblings, including Shiranui and Kuroshio. Historically, she shared close ties with Shiranui, Kasumi, and Arare in the 18th Destroyer Division, as well as Kuroshio, Oyashio, and Hayashio in the 15th Destroyer Division. She frequently displays her caring nature toward her sisters, such as sharing home-cooked food with Arashi.
Trivia
Her uniform design is visually identical to that of her sisters Shiranui and Kuroshio, distinguished primarily by the color of their respective neck ribbons. In addition to appearing in official calendar illustrations, she made a brief non-speaking appearance in an animated sequence illustrating the gesture of throwing down a glove.
