Overview
Entombed Air Defense Guardian Princess is a boss-class Abyssal ship introduced in Kantai Collection during the Autumn 2017 Event, "Showdown at Leyte Gulf! Intercept, the Battle of Leyte Gulf (Part 1)." She serves as the ultimate flagship of the fourth sea area. Although designated on-screen as an Anti-Air Destroyer, she is internally processed as an Aviation Battleship by the game engine. Serving as the Abyssal manifestation of the Akizuki-class destroyer Suzutsuki, she stands out for her formidable armor and extraordinary anti-air capabilities.
Appearance
She possesses long white hair, golden eyes, and pale skin. A dark hood covers half of her face, and she wears a dress that leaves her shoulders bare. Her hands are bound tightly by heavy anchor chains. Her forehead protector is strapped upside down with its long ribbons floating forward, and she is accompanied by multicolored gun turrets.
Personality
Unlike many aggressive Abyssal entities, she exhibits a calm demeanor and speaks in polite, formal language without expressing overt hostility toward the ship girls. She demonstrates a strong sense of duty and attachment regarding her role in protecting her designated waters. When defeated and released from her restraints, she expresses genuine relief and surprise at the prospect of returning to her original form to sail the seas freely once more.
Abilities
Internally classified as an Aviation Battleship, she is subject to armor-piercing shell damage multipliers and torpedo attacks, though she carries no aircraft and cannot engage in anti-submarine combat. Her exceptionally high anti-air stat effectively annihilates enemy air reconnaissance and land-based aircraft, suppressing artillery spotting attacks. She equips two 4-inch Twin Dual-Purpose Gun Mounts with CIC along with Strait Ambush Torpedoes, enabling double attacks during night battles while boasting massive durability and defense stats.
Background
She appears as the final flagship of Map E-4 during the Autumn 2017 Event. Her design and narrative stem from the historical fate of the Akizuki-class destroyer Suzutsuki, who could not participate in the Battle of Leyte Gulf due to heavy repairs and was later buried in concrete as a breakwater in Wakamatsu Port, Fukuoka. Elements of the Battleship Fusou, who lost her bow and became isolated in battle, are also integrated into her concept. Clearing her battle unlocks Suzutsuki for the fleet.
Relationships
Upon being freed from her Abyssal form, she reverts to her original ship girl identity, the Akizuki-class destroyer Suzutsuki. She fights alongside the Strait Night Princess as part of the defense fleet at Surigao Strait. She maintains deep thematic connections with her sister ships Akizuki and Hatsuzuki, who sank near the Leyte area, as well as Fuyutsuki and her Abyssal counterpart, the Entombed Air Defense Winter Princess.
Trivia
Her title "Maigo" combines the kanji for being buried and serving as coastal protection, while functioning as a clever wordplay on "maigo" (lost child) due to Suzutsuki losing communications and ending up in Surigao Strait where she never historically fought. Fans affectionately nickname her "Umaru-chan" or "Air Defense Lost Princess." Early datamined event files initially registered her under the shorthand title "Boukuu Maihime."
