Overview
Tsushima is a character in Kantai Collection representing the seventh vessel of the Etorofu-class coastal defense ships. Designed primarily for convoy escort and anti-submarine defense, she is portrayed with an exceptionally petite build even compared to destroyers. She is defined by her languid, soft-spoken delivery and an elusive, faintly mischievous charm that distinguishes her within her ship class.
Appearance
Tsushima features long purple hair that gradients into pink and gold at the tips, two-tone purple and yellow eyes with a downward slant, and a beauty mark under her right eye. Her standard uniform consists of a white shirt with puffy short sleeves, a blue sailor collar, an aqua neckerchief, a blue pleated skirt, black thighhighs, grey loafers, a white beret, and white gloves. Her naval rigging includes back-mounted funnels and masts, a handheld 12 cm gun mount, depth charges and a 25 mm anti-aircraft gun strapped to her thighs, and a blue ankle ribbon. She also possesses seasonal graphics such as cleaning attire with a headscarf and autumn civilian clothes.
Personality
Though she gives an initial impression of being meek, Tsushima actually possesses a calm, low-energy personality with a slow, relaxed manner of speaking. She talks in a fragmented rhythm, pausing between words and frequently ending her phrases with a quiet chuckle, giving her a subtle 'little devil' aura. While she displays little enthusiasm for heavy chores such as seasonal cleanups, she ultimately complies when asked.
Abilities
As a coastal defense ship, Tsushima specializes in anti-submarine warfare and fleet protection. Compared to her class sisters, her initial firepower is slightly lower, but she possesses superior base evasion and high initial luck. Upon reaching her high remodeling threshold at level 47, her evasion and anti-submarine stats reach the top tier among the Etorofu class. Her initial equipment includes a Type 93 Underwater Sonar.
Background
Commissioned in July 1943 and stationed at the Kure Naval District, Tsushima served during World War II primarily as an escort for vital supply convoys, including the Hi-81 and Hi-85 shipping lines. Surviving the war at Sasebo, she was handed over post-war to the Republic of China as a prize vessel and renamed ROCS Lin An. She was later relocated to Taiwan, refitted with American weaponry, and remained in active service until her decommissioning in 1963. She was added to Kantai Collection during the autumn 2017 event.
Relationships
Tsushima shares close ties with her Etorofu-class sisters, including Etorofu, Matsuwa, Sado, and Fukae. Having served together in the 101st Escort Division, she is acquainted with fellow coastal defense ships Ukuru and Daito. She also shares a post-war history with vessels like Yukikaze, Yashiro, and Yoizuki, which were similarly transferred to the Republic of China. Additionally, her voice lines make reference to the training submarine Ro-500 and the training cruiser Kashii.
Trivia
Her name originates from Tsushima Island in Nagasaki Prefecture. Originally voiced by Ayaka Imamura, the role was later assumed by Asami Seto following Imamura's retirement from voice acting. Her seasonal voice lines hint at her post-war service in Taiwan, such as noting that Setsubun is not celebrated there. Due to her name, she frequently inspires crossover and parody artwork linked to the video game Ghost of Tsushima.
