Suzunami

Overview

Suzunami is a shipgirl in Kantai Collection based on the tenth Yuugumo-class destroyer of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Introduced during a limited-time event in spring 2021, she refers to herself by the pet name Suzu and approaches her duties with a lively and enthusiastic attitude.

Appearance

She has greenish-blue hair with a light blue and white gradient toward the tips, tied into a half updo that displays her forehead using an aqua bow patterned with seigaiha waves and white dots. Her eyes are depicted in shades of brownish-yellow or green. She wears the standard Yuugumo-class uniform, consisting of a purple halterneck pleated dress over a white shirt, an aqua bowtie, grey pantyhose, and lace-up boots. Her default artwork depicts her dropping depth charges from her left hand, while her damaged state reveals black underwear with vertical stripes. She also possesses a swimsuit variant and a Valentine's Day outfit featuring a cream turtleneck with a denim skirt.

Personality

Suzunami refers to herself as Atashi or Suzu and has a distinct habit of addressing her close comrades by a single kanji from their names. Bright and determined, she takes pride in being part of the Second Torpedo Squadron to encourage herself despite her short historical service. As a secretary ship, she is remarkably efficient, taking great care of the Admiral while handling paperwork and cooking meals.

Abilities

Suzunami can be remodeled at level 30. For a destroyer capped at a single Kai form, she features relatively high firepower and torpedo stats, giving her solid night-battle offensive capabilities. She also excels in anti-submarine warfare and reconnaissance values, enabling early opening ASW capabilities. However, her evasion and luck stats are on the lower side, making the use of specialized lookout equipment or flagship utility setups helpful. She gains standard equipment bonuses when fitted with 12.7cm Twin Gun Mount Model D Kai 2 or Kai 3.

Background

She was made available as a drop ship in the latter operation of the spring 2021 event Conflict! Battle of Lunga Point. Historically constructed at the Uraga Dock Company as the tenth Yuugumo-class vessel, she forms the 32nd Destroyer Division alongside her sisters and also appears as part of friendly support fleets in event operations.

Relationships

She shares a warm bond with her 32nd Destroyer Division squadmates—Fujinami, Hayanami, Tamanami, and Hamanami—referring to them fondly by single-character shortenings. She shows respect to Noshiro, the flagship of the Second Torpedo Squadron, by addressing her with an honorific suffix. She also shares a sense of kinship with Miyuki, who was built at the same shipyard.

Trivia

With Suzunami's implementation, all Yuugumo-class destroyers numbered from 10 through 19 became available in the game. Her swimsuit artwork surprised players regarding her figure compared to her sisters built at the same shipyard.
