Overview
Isokaze is a character from the browser game Kantai Collection, representing the 12th ship of the Kagerou-class destroyers. Introduced as a final reward in the Summer 2014 event, she is depicted as a dignified and proud warrior with a long history of combat achievements.
Appearance
Isokaze has waist-length straight black hair with a section bound by a red cord draped forward, and crimson eyes. She wears a navy-and-white long-sleeved sailor uniform with a yellow scarf, a grey pleated skirt, white gloves, and asymmetric black legwear—a thigh-high sock on her left and a high sock on her right—along with pointed grey pumps. Her equipment features dual handheld pistol-grip weapons mounting guns and anti-aircraft guns, alongside rear arm mounts supporting torpedo launchers, depth charges, a funnel-and-radar unit, and main artillery. Her standard remodel replaces her scarf with a golden rope ornament, adds a headband-mounted radar, puts a white stripe on her left sock, and updates her gear, while her B-type remodel features a sturdier build and further upgraded heavy weaponry.
Personality
Isokaze possesses a straightforward, solemn, and honorable warrior spirit. She deeply values her comrades, though she can be overly direct in combat and surprisingly clumsy in everyday life. She is notoriously completely devoid of culinary skill, often causing disaster when attempting to cook despite her genuine enthusiasm for it. While she sometimes maintains a blunt and businesslike demeanor around others, this stems from her awkwardness in casual social settings rather than a lack of affection.
Abilities
Isokaze starts with exceptionally heavy destroyer armament. Upon remodeling, she gains high-tier equipment such as high-angle guns and improved air-radar units, resulting in formidable anti-air performance. Through her special B-type remodel, her firepower, torpedo power, anti-submarine capabilities, and anti-air stats receive substantial boosts, allowing her to execute specialized anti-air cut-in attacks when equipped with specific high-angle guns and radars.
Background
First introduced as a high-difficulty event reward in summer 2014, Isokaze was long known for her exceptionally high initial remodel level requirement and rare status. Over time, after featured seasonal appearances during autumn Pacific saury events, she became obtainable through standard combat sea areas. As part of the 17th Destroyer Division, she participates in various operational tasks and combat missions.
Relationships
She shares a strong bond with her fellow 17th Destroyer Division members, Hamakaze, Urakaze, and Tanikaze, often relying on the latter two to help her with domestic tasks she struggles to handle. Due to shared history in her final battle, her upgraded equipment and outfit bear subtle design elements honoring the battleship Yamato. Toward the Admiral, she displays a caring yet socially awkward affection.
Trivia
During seasonal autumn events, she receives a special visual variant wearing an apron while grilling fish over a charcoal brazier, presenting a burnt fish with confidence when damaged. Despite historical anecdotes of her real-world counterpart treating prisoners to generous meals, in-game she is famous for her hopeless cooking skills. Her stoic voice acting contrasts playfully with her clumsy culinary antics.
