Overview
Mogador is a shipgirl in Kantai Collection representing the lead vessel of the French Navy's Mogador-class large destroyers. Introduced as the first French destroyer in the game, she combines an earnest, hard-working personality with a striking outfit design that contrasts her innocent, freckled face. Dedicated to fulfilling her duties on the front lines, she treats the Admiral with respect while displaying a lively curiosity toward Japanese culture and showing a vulnerable side influenced by her traumatic historical memories.
Appearance
Mogador has dark brown or black long hair with a hairband and sidelocks, green eyes, and freckles on her face. Her primary outfit consists of a top with a wide open collar, a choker-style collar, a blue necktie, slightly rolled-up sleeves, and black gloves. She wears an ultra-mini pleated skirt, navy thigh-high socks, white boots, and foot belts that dig deeply into her thighs. In her yukata attire, she wears sandals and a robe split between blue on the right and white on the left, which shifts to a solid navy shade in her upgraded form. For the Saury Festival, she wears sunglasses, a red sweater, a black fur jacket, a black miniskirt, black enamel thigh-high boots, and holds disposable chopsticks. Her damaged festival graphic depicts a seagull snatching her fish alongside an exaggerated facial expression. She also possesses miko, Valentine's, swimsuit, anniversary, Yokohama, and Sasebo outfit variants.
Personality
Mogador is intensely serious and enthusiastic about her duties, driven by a strong desire to excel in combat. While naturally thoughtful and caring toward others, she becomes visibly anxious during the early morning hours due to trauma linked to her historic scuttling. She is not a heavy drinker, turning down wine at lunch and becoming flustered when overindulging at dinner. Although she addresses the Admiral with polite speech, she does not hesitate to reprimand him for slacking off or drinking before noon. She harbors a persistent wariness toward British ships, often reacting with defensive panic at harmless gestures, yet demonstrates an eager fascination with Japanese cultural festivals, diving into them with boundless energy.
Abilities
Classified as a large high-speed destroyer, Mogador inherently possesses a medium combat range from her base form. Upon remodeling, her available equipment slots expand to four, granting her operational capabilities similar to those of Tashkent. However, reflecting her historical service life of merely three years before being scuttled, her initial luck statistic is set at 6, tying her for the lowest initial value among destroyers in the game.
Background
Mogador was introduced during the limited-time event Operation Menace as the first French Navy destroyer in the game. Her historical counterpart suffered severe damage during the 1940 Attack on Mers-el-Kébir when British forces struck her, igniting her depth charges. She was towed to Toulon for repairs, where she remained stuck until early one morning when an order was issued to scuttle the fleet to prevent capture. In the game, she retains vivid memories of these events, driving both her lingering wariness toward British vessels and her passionate determination to make the most of her new life on the battlefield.
Relationships
Mogador addresses the Admiral as "Amiral," treating him with formal respect but readily scolding him whenever he slackens during duty or attempts to drink wine as early as 11 AM. Due to the events of Mers-el-Kébir, she remains wary of British shipgirls, mistaking their afternoon tea time for a targeting maneuver and throwing beans with absolute fury when they act as demons during Setsubun. Conversely, she maintains close bonds with her French comrades, spending mid-days with Commandant Teste, being roped into helping Richelieu prepare full-course dinners, and conducting end-of-year cleanups alongside Gloire.
Trivia
Mogador's artwork was created by Kaibara Sakana, making her the first French shipgirl in the game to be illustrated by an artist other than Akira. The distinct visual detail of her thigh-high socks and foot belts pressing tightly into her thighs inspired a humorous fan nickname comparing her legs to bound roast pork. Additionally, her damaged graphic for the Saury Festival became a fan favorite for depicting a seagull stealing her fish rather than focusing on physical damage to her person, accompanied by an unusually expressive and comical facial reaction.
