Overview

Suzutsuki is a character in Kantai Collection, based on the historical Imperial Japanese Navy's third Akizuki-class anti-aircraft destroyer. Defined by her calm, dependable demeanor and protective attitude, she stands as a deeply devoted member of the fleet.

Appearance

Suzutsuki has long silver hair styled in a one-side-up ponytail accompanied by a fire control director and a headband, alongside blue-grey eyes. Her outfit includes a white shirt with a black sailor collar, a yellow neckerchief, a grey bow-shaped corset, a grey jacket, a white pleated miniskirt, white pantyhose, and rudder-shaped footwear. A distinctive white inner suit extends all the way down over her hands. Her headband initially displays her division line, which changes to a white band representing the 41st Destroyer Division upon remodel. She possesses a tall, well-endowed physique. She is accompanied by sentient gun mounts featuring star-crossed eyes, and she also sports a black bikini accented with sheer frills in her summer attire.

Personality

Suzutsuki possesses a refined, quiet, and deeply caring demeanor. Despite being the third ship of her class, her serene and composed nature gives her a mature, big-sisterly presence. She is dedicated to protecting the Admiral and her fellow fleet members, often emphasizing safe returns. Domestically inclined and practical, she maintains a small garden at the base where she grows vegetables like pumpkins and sweet potatoes, preparing simple, humble meals for those around her. She treats her sisters with fond respect, addressing them with polite, traditional honorifics.

Abilities

As an anti-aircraft destroyer, Suzutsuki excels in air defense operations. Her default equipment includes 10cm twin high-angle gun mounts with anti-aircraft fire directors, air-search radar, 25mm triple anti-aircraft machine guns, and quad 61cm torpedo tubes mounted on her back. Upon undergoing her remodel at level 55, her anti-aircraft firepower increases significantly, alongside acquiring top-class durability and high luck stats among destroyers. She benefits from equipment synergy bonuses when utilizing high-angle guns and radars, and is capable of equipping large radars, medium bulges, and fleet command facilities.

Background

Suzutsuki was introduced in Kantai Collection as an event completion reward during the Autumn 2017 event. Her historical namesake served in the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II, initially assigned to the 10th Fleet and 61st Destroyer Division, and later the 41st Destroyer Division, participating in major combat engagements such as Operation Ten-Go. Despite suffering catastrophic damage on multiple occasions, including losing her bow, she survived the war. After the war, her hull was repurposed as a breakwater in Wakamatsu, Kitakyushu, where it remains embedded in concrete to this day.

Relationships

Suzutsuki deeply respects her eldest sister, Akizuki. She shares a close relationship with her younger sister Hatsuzuki—who was completed on the exact same day—exchanging affectionate nicknames with her. She is similarly attached to Fuyutsuki, who fought alongside her in the 41st Destroyer Division; Fuyutsuki frequently checks in on Suzutsuki due to her past trauma of losing contact with her after battle. Suzutsuki also maintains fond memories of light cruiser Agano, the flagship of the 10th Fleet where Suzutsuki was first stationed.

Trivia

Suzutsuki's distinct silver hair and angular design elements reflect her real-life history; after suffering severe structural damage, her bow was rebuilt in the style of later wartime production variants, and her bridge was replaced with a unique boxy structure. Additionally, her featured solo track "Tsukiyoumi Suzutsuki mode" in the game's jukebox is believed to honor her historical captain during Operation Ten-Go, Toshio Hirayama, who was known as an avid music enthusiast.
