Overview

Northern Water Princess is an Abyssal ship boss appearing in Kantai Collection. Introduced during the Spring 2017 Event, "Sortie! 5th Fleet to the Northeast," she serves as the flagship boss for the final map (E-5). Classified as a battleship-type enemy, she combines heavy armor with formidable firepower and torpedo capability, standing as a primary adversary in the northern maritime theater.

Appearance

She appears as a female figure with white hair featuring straight front bangs and low twintails, glowing blue eyes, and a tall, thorn-patterned mitre crown modeled after a ship's funnel. She wears a white cape, a tooth-shaped chest ornament, and thigh-high boots, while her torso remains mostly exposed with minimal coverage. Her back rigging features a fleshy mass with short arms beneath her cape, alongside two massive mechanical arms carrying triple gun turrets and gauntlets with sharp claws. In her damaged state, her crown disappears to reveal a hairband and an ahoge, her eyes and aura turn red, and her rigging exhibits glowing red cracks.

Personality

Northern Water Princess exhibits a brazen, highly aggressive demeanor, approaching battles with supreme confidence and disdain for her opponents. She shows complete indifference toward her unusually revealing attire, maintaining a defiant front throughout combat. However, when brought to the brink of defeat, her stubborn facade crumbles, uncovering a deep distress over the freezing sea and a desperate desire to escape the cold and return to a warm world.

Abilities

As a low-speed battleship-class enemy with super-long range, she possesses high armor, durability, anti-air capabilities, and powerful torpedo attacks. Her default equipment includes Deep Sea 12inch Triple Gun Mounts, High-Speed Deep Sea Torpedoes, and Deep Sea Attack Reconnaissance Seaplanes. Fulfilling specific air defense and node victory requirements triggers an armor-breaking mechanism, reducing her defensive stats. Furthermore, she takes significantly increased damage from dive bombers, jet aircraft, and historical task force vessels such as Verniy.

Background

Northern Water Princess was introduced in the Spring 2017 Event "Sortie! 5th Fleet to the Northeast" as the main boss of the final E-5 stage set in northern waters. Leading the Abyssal main force to reclaim northern territories, she launched a heavy assault against the player's fleet. Serving as the Abyssal counterpart to the Soviet battleship Gangut, she notably appeared directly as a Water Princess without a prior lower-tier Water Demon form. Defeating her at the climax of the event purifies her spirit, allowing her to join the player's fleet in her restored form as Gangut.

Relationships

She shares an implicit identity with the Soviet battleship Gangut, with both understood to share the same voice actress, Asami Seto. During her debut event, she faced the warships of the Fifth Fleet—including Nachi, Kiso, Abukuma, Ushio, and Kasumi—as well as the destroyer Verniy, all of whom wield historical damage bonuses against her in combat.

Trivia

While officially designated as the "Northern Witch" in event materials, fan communities humorously dubbed her the "Northern Exhibitionist" due to her remarkably minimal attire. Upon the event's initial release, her armament was temporarily displayed in game text as "Deep Sea 30.5cm Triple Gun Mount," accidentally telegraphing her connection to Gangut's historical main battery before being updated.
