Overview
Samidare is a ship girl from the browser game Kantai Collection, representing the sixth entry of the Shiratsuyu-class destroyers. As one of the five initial starter options available to new players, she holds a distinct place as the only non-Fubuki-class destroyer among the starters. Dedicated to fulfilling her escort duties, she is defined by her cheerful and pure personality.
Appearance
Samidare features long, translucent blue hair with gradient tips that fade into light gold at the front and silver at the back, curling towards the ends, which sometimes gives the impression of a ponytail from the front. She has large blue eyes. Her outfit consists of a unique sleeveless sailor-style top paired with a white pleated skirt, a neckerchief, black elbow-length gloves, and black thigh-high socks. Her chest is notably flat. For gear, she carries quad torpedo tubes mounted on her back and holds twin gun mounts in her hands.
Personality
Pure, earnest, and deeply hardworking, Samidare approaches every task with untiring optimism. Despite her best intentions, she is prone to blunder and can be easily brought to tears, which leaves her somewhat self-conscious about her clumsy reputation. She continuously strives to improve herself. She displays a delicate innocence, retaining vague feelings of guilt over past military mishaps without fully recalling the exact traumatic details.
Abilities
Because her underlying real-world ship model is newer than those of the other starter choices, reaching her first modernization milestone grants equipment that is slightly superior to her peers. In terms of raw stats, her combat capability sits at an average level among all destroyers.
Background
Her historical counterpart participated in numerous naval engagements, dedicating much of her service to escort, transport, and rescue operations across various theaters. Within the game, she stands as one of the fundamental starter choices guiding players through their early fleet operations.
Relationships
She shares identical uniform styling and close artistic ties with her younger sister ship Suzukaze. She also shares tactical history with her sister Shigure. Her relationship with the light cruiser Yuubari is rooted in a historic rescue attempt, leading to depictions of strong emotional bonds between them. Additionally, she harbors an lingering sense of apology toward the battleship Hiei.
Trivia
Among the early Shiratsuyu-class destroyers, only Samidare and Suzukaze wear a distinct sleeveless attire rather than the standard black sailor uniform worn by the rest of their sisters. Her devoted and angelic character traits have earned her a affectionate fan slogan praising her pure demeanor.
