Overview

A ship girl from Kantai Collection modeled after the second ship of the Myoukou-class heavy cruisers. Having served as a fleet flagship for the Fifth Fleet and the Shima Fleet in major operations, she combines a gallant, warrior-like dignity with a distinct passion for drinking.

Appearance

She features long black hair tied in a left-side ponytail with side-swept bangs and brown eyes. Her attire consists of a purple military-style uniform with short puffy sleeves, paired with a black pencil skirt, white pantyhose, and white elbow-length gloves. A badge shaped like the silhouette of a surface radar decorates her chest. Her armaments include twin 20.3 cm gun mounts on her shoulders and right glove, a bridge structure on her left glove, and quad torpedo tubes mounted around her waist and thigh straps.

Personality

Nachi possesses a serious, warrior-like demeanor and an authoritative atmosphere reminiscent of a capable career woman. While her speech carries formal naval phrasing, she displays a surprisingly airheaded side by interpreting affectionate gestures as tactical maneuvers. She is a heavy drinker who often stays up past midnight enjoying Suntory Old whiskey, though she remains well-behaved while intoxicated. Despite her stern exterior, she harbors a hidden soft spot for cute things.

Abilities

She operates as a high-speed heavy cruiser capable of mid-range gunfire and torpedo strikes. Her weapon loadout utilizes 20.3 cm twin gun mounts, 20.3 cm Twin Gun Mount (No.2), and 61 cm quad oxygen torpedo tubes. She can undergo remodels into Kai and Kai Ni forms, with the latter available at level 65. However, she considers herself disadvantaged against attacks from enemy carrier aircraft.

Background

Built at the Kure Naval Armory, her construction was rushed to ensure her participation in the fleet review for the Showa Emperor's coronation. As a result, she was completed ahead of the class leader Myoukou, leading to the occasional informal designation of 'Nachi-class.' She took part in the Shanghai Incident and numerous Pacific War operations, including the Aleutian campaign, the Battle of Attu, and the Battle of Surigao Strait, serving as flagship for both the Fifth Fleet and the Shima Fleet.

Relationships

She shares a strong bond with her Myoukou-class sisters—Myoukou, Ashigara, and Haguro—forming the Fifth Cruiser Division during engagements like the Battle of the Java Sea. She historically assisted the damaged Hatsuyuki after the Fourth Fleet Incident. Due to an accidental collision with the heavily damaged Mogami at the Surigao Strait, the two are frequently connected in media. As flagship of the Shima Fleet, she commanded destroyer and cruiser elements including Abukuma and Akebono.

Trivia

Her name is derived from Mount Nachi in Wakayama Prefecture, and her onboard shrine derived from Kumano Nachi Taisha. In the game's 'Naval District Counter Bar' furniture, she has a unique interaction where her whiskey bottle remains on the counter past 1:00 AM. Additionally, her unique sortie announcement refers to the fleet under her own name regardless of her position in the squad.
