Overview
Destroyer Princess is an Abyssal Ship appearing in Kantai Collection, serving as the franchise's first humanoid and Princess-class enemy flagship within the destroyer category. She made her debut as the boss of the second stage in the Autumn 2014 Event, Operation Kon. Possessing a distinct human form unlike earlier Abyssal destroyers, she is designed as an Abyssal counterpart heavily incorporating the appearance and historical motifs of the shipgirl Harusame.
Appearance
She features gradient white hair bound into a side ponytail with a ribbon, alongside pale skin and light purple eyes. On her head, she wears a hat adorned with sharp spikes. Her attire consists of a sleeveless black sailor suit with a necktie, leaving her midriff and navel area widely exposed. An artillery cannon is attached to her left arm, while torpedo launch tubes and belts are fitted onto her thighs. Below the thigh rigging, her lower legs are absent.
Personality
In battle, she exhibits a fierce defiance against incoming strikes, expressing distress and anger when taking hits. She demonstrates a persistent drive to repel enemy forces during combat. However, upon her defeat, her demeanor shifts toward a quiet, poetic melancholy, calmly admiring the beauty of the moon as she reaches out toward the sky while sinking beneath the waves.
Abilities
Despite being categorized as a destroyer, she possesses exceptionally high durability and armor parameters comparable to heavy capital ships. In night battles, she frequently executes devastating cut-in attacks combining artillery and torpedoes. Equipped with twin 5-inch gun mounts and late-model 22-inch torpedoes, she demonstrates high mobility and evasion. In the arcade edition, she aggressively rushes forward, deploying shell splash zones and launching fast-moving triangular torpedo salvos.
Background
She debuted during the Autumn 2014 Event as the primary boss guarding the second stage of Operation Kon. Her design and context directly reference the historical destroyer Harusame, who sank during the real-world Operation Kon following air strikes on her stern—an event manifested in her missing lower legs. Following her introduction, she has appeared as an operational boss in Map 6-3, as well as multiple subsequent limited-time events and the arcade platform.
Relationships
She shares an explicit design and thematic connection with the Shiratsuyu-class destroyer Harusame, being widely treated as her Abyssal counterpart. She also exhibits thematic dialogue parallels with the anti-air destroyer Akizuki. In secondary works, she is often featured alongside Abyssal figures such as Northern Princess and Light Cruiser Demon as part of a recurring trio of prominent humanoid Abyssal enemies.
Trivia
Fans frequently refer to her by the fan moniker Warusame, combining the word for evil with Harusame's name. Within Chinese player communities, she earned the humorous epithet Harusame Doctor due to the endless farming runs admirals conducted at her event node, sending players to hypothetical mental exhaustion. Her defeat line concerning the moon references a famous Japanese literary anecdote attributed to Natsume Soseki, where admiring the moon serves as a poetic expression of affection.
