Overview
Nagatsuki is a character from the browser game Kantai Collection, representing the eighth ship of the Mutsuki-class destroyers. Despite belonging to an older ship class with modest baseline capabilities, she carries herself with immense martial pride and operates as a fearless front-line combatant. Alongside her sister ships—including Kikuzuki, with whom she shares a strikingly similar visual presentation, and her squadmates in Destroyer Division 22—she serves as a dedicated, high-spirited member of the fleet who takes immense pride in her combat achievements.
Appearance
Nagatsuki features semi-long green hair adorned with a crescent-shaped hair accessory, complemented by yellow-green eyes. She wears a black sailor uniform with a black collar and a white tie, paired with a matching black miniskirt, black stockings, and short brown boots. During the winter holidays, she is portrayed in a festive Santa Claus outfit. Her heavily damaged artwork reveals that she does not wear a bra beneath her top shirt.
Personality
Possessing a bold disposition fueled by traditional warrior spirit, Nagatsuki is a fierce combatant who fearlessly charges into enemy forces. She holds absolute confidence in her abilities, boasting after battle victories that no ship surpasses her strength. She views docking for repairs as an annoying chore and resists taking breaks, though she reluctantly complies when ordered after suffering heavy damage. Despite her gallant and tough exterior, she is severely flustered by physical touch, revealing a bashful side when subjected to sudden affection.
Abilities
In battle, Nagatsuki wields a single gun mount featuring a handgun-style grip and shield in her right hand, depth charges strapped around her waist, and triple torpedo tubes secured to her lower legs. Though her baseline attributes reflect her older vessel class, her luck stat starts at 15 and increases to 20 upon remodeling. Through modernization, her luck cap reaches 79, making her exceptionally capable at executing effective night-battle cut-in attacks.
Background
Completed roughly seven months before her visually similar sister Kikuzuki, Nagatsuki was built as the eighth Mutsuki-class destroyer. Historically, she served in Destroyer Division 22 alongside Satsuki, Fumizuki, and Minazuki. During an amphibious transport operation, she ran aground and endured intense enemy air strikes while completing her mission before being abandoned. Because her stranded hull remained largely intact for decades without immediately sinking, her in-game representation features an unusually high luck stat.
Relationships
Among her Mutsuki-class sisters, Nagatsuki is closely connected to Kikuzuki, who shares a very similar visual style. She also maintains tight ties with Satsuki, Fumizuki, and Minazuki as fellow members of Destroyer Division 22. In temperament, her fearless charging tactics resonate with light cruisers like Tenryu and Kiso. Towards the Admiral, she presents a dignified demeanor, yet easily loses her composure when touched or poked.
Trivia
During night battles, Nagatsuki boasts about the strength of her oxygen torpedoes, despite historical Mutsuki-class destroyers utilizing Type 90 torpedoes instead. Furthermore, her initial default loadout contains no torpedoes at all, creating a humorous disconnect until she is re-equipped. Additionally, she was the first Mutsuki-class character drawn by illustrator Kusada Souta to receive a limited seasonal Santa outfit outside of Kai Ni redesigns.
