Overview

Yashiro is a character in Kantai Collection representing the sixth ship of the Imperial Japanese Navy's Mikura-class coastal defense ships. Earnest and dedicated, she carries out her escort duties with a strong sense of responsibility to protect her fleet and companions.

Appearance

She has long hair in a pinkish-brown shade, distinctive thick eyebrows, and brown eyes. Her main outfit is a customized Mikura-class uniform featuring a white short-sleeved sailor shirt with puffy sleeves, a blue collar, a white-and-blue chest ribbon, and a red pleated skirt with side vents. The collar, sleeve cuffs, skirt hem, and white gloves are trimmed with lace. She wears white knee-high socks and grey rudder-style shoes. A mandarin orange blossom pin decorates her white sailor hat, and a goldfish badge rests on her chest. A stylized plum blossom motif is marked on the side of her main gun. After her level 45 remodel, her equipment updates with an E27 reverse-detection radar, a No. 13 radar on the rear mast, a mortar behind the main gun, and a 25mm triple anti-aircraft gun on her right thigh, while ankle minesweeping gear is removed. In her yukata form, she wears a mandarin-patterned outfit with a goldfish-patterned sash and carries goldfish and finless porpoise plushies.

Personality

Yashiro is polite, earnest, and deeply conscientious, taking closely after her eldest sister Mikura. Driven by a desire to shield others, she frequently encourages her allies not to overexert themselves. Her seasonal speech reveals a thoughtful demeanor as she shares knowledge of Taiwanese customs and local traditions.

Abilities

Yashiro displays strong initial anti-submarine statistics, enabling her to perform opening anti-submarine attacks from early stages. Reaching level 45 allows her to be remodeled, significantly enhancing her anti-submarine, anti-air, and reconnaissance capabilities. She enters combat equipped with the 12cm Single High-Angle Gun Mount E, backed by depth charges, anti-aircraft weaponry, and radar systems attached to her rigging.

Background

Her name originates from Yashiro Island, also known as Suo-Oshima, in Yamaguchi Prefecture. During World War II, she survived grueling escort operations despite suffering heavy bridge damage from air strikes and collision accidents. Following the war, she carried out mine-clearing and repatriation missions before being transferred to Taiwan as a prize ship, where she was renamed Cheng An and served through the early 1960s.

Relationships

As the sixth member of the Mikura class, she maintains a strong sisterly resemblance in character to Mikura. She exhibits lingering concern for the destroyer Asashimo due to historical wartime encounters. She also shares post-war historical ties with Tsushima, who was likewise transferred to Taiwan, and is closely associated with the light cruiser Helena.

Trivia

Her mandarin flower pin and goldfish badge reference Yashiro Island's local citrus industry and its geographical shape resembling a goldfish. The plum blossom decoration on her main gun honors Taiwan's national flower, reflecting her post-war history and her regular appearances in official Lunar New Year artwork by her illustrator Acea4.
