Overview
Kinu is a ship girl from the browser game Kantai Collection, based on the fifth vessel of the Nagara-class light cruisers. Classified as a light cruiser, she is a relatively rare drop alongside her sister ship Abukuma, distinguished by her bright and energetic presence.
Appearance
Kinu features dull red bobbed hair and orange eyes. She wears a white and light green sailor uniform with a light green pleated skirt and knee boots, a style shared with her sister ships Yura and Abukuma. Her naval rigging incorporates four single gun mounts, including two mounted directly on her wrists. Her damaged artwork reveals a surprisingly voluptuous bust. Her base pose is notably recognized by both arms triumphantly raised in the air.
Personality
Contrary to the aggressive literal meaning of her name, Kinu is extremely cheerful, energetic, and dedicated to training. Inheriting a sporty drive from her sisters, she values hard work. She loves trying to entertain others with puns and jokes, though her sense of humor is often met with mixed reactions. Deeply attached to the Admiral, she frequently uses training as an excuse to spend time together, masking her sweet affection behind a slightly awkward, tomboyish front.
Abilities
While starting with standard baseline light cruiser stats, Kinu gains a significant boost to her anti-submarine warfare capabilities upon modernization, allowing her to excel as an ASW specialist. Her initial modernization requirement is set at a relatively low level.
Background
Drawing from her historical service in the Southwest Area, Kinu serves as an experienced light cruiser. Due to her historical role as the flagship of the Second Destroyer Squadron prior to the war, she is respected by destroyers like Fubuki as a reliable and caring senior officer.
Relationships
She is part of the Nagara-class sisterhood alongside Nagara, Isuzu, Natori, Yura, and Abukuma, sharing direct design traits with Yura and Abukuma. She maintains a close rapport with Kuma from their shared historical assignment in the 16th Cruiser Division. Towards the Admiral, she harbors affection that she continuously expresses through seasonal interactions.
Trivia
Because her base illustration features both hands raised high, fans frequently associate her with the famous 'Columbia' meme pose. Additionally, due to the character for 'oni' (demon) in her name, she is commonly assigned the role of the bean-thrown demon during Setsubun seasonal events in derivative works and game audio.
