Overview
Libeccio is a ship girl from the browser game Kantai Collection, based on the historical Italian Royal Navy Maestrale-class destroyer. Introduced as the first Italian destroyer in the game, she is an energetic and friendly character who maintains an affectionate and close rapport with the Admiral.
Appearance
She has brown hair styled in twintails, dark tanned skin, brown eyes, and a prominent fang. Her base outfit consists of a sleeveless white sailor dress with green accents and a short skirt marked with her identifier code "LI." A red-and-white striped ribbon tie at her chest completes the Italian tricolor scheme. On her feet, she wears rudder-like sandals modeled after a ship's bow. Her back rigging includes a funnel section, twin gun mounts, and triple torpedo tubes, while she wears a mini hat based on a fire control director and paravanes strapped to her thighs. She also has several seasonal costumes, including Halloween, swimsuit, festival yukata, Valentine, and rainy season attire.
Personality
She possesses an exceptionally cheerful and innocent personality, often maintaining high energy from early in the morning. She naturally warms up to the Admiral, suggesting to be called by her short nickname. Possessing a hearty appetite, she frequently visits the fleet dining area. She holds a strong admiration for heavy capital ships, firmly believing that eating enough will help her grow into a warship herself. Conversely, she harbors a deep fear of air raids and submarine attacks.
Abilities
While her torpedo stat is relatively low compared to typical destroyers, she excels in anti-submarine capabilities. Her default equipment, the 120mm Twin Gun Mount, offers accuracy bonuses that make it particularly useful when equipping support fleets. Due to her high base anti-submarine stats, she can achieve the requirements for opening anti-submarine warfare attacks at a much lower level than many standard destroyers.
Background
She originally made her debut as a map completion reward during a limited-time event, later becoming available through regular sea area drops. Despite her overseas origin, she speaks fluent Japanese and adapts quickly to daily base life. Having sunk prior to the broader Pacific conflict in historical context, she is occasionally bewildered by the strange customs of other fleet members, such as their obsession with night battles or sudden changes in ship names after remodels.
Relationships
She shares close sisterly ties with her fellow Maestrale-class destroyers: Maestrale, Grecale, and Scirocco. She deeply admires the battleship Roma, and she shares a warm friendship with Kiyoshimo, bonded over their mutual dream of becoming battleships. She also expresses high regard for the British battleship Warspite.
Trivia
Her name "Libeccio" comes from the Italian word referring to the humid south-westerly wind of the Mediterranean. Her severe aversion to being struck from behind, as well as her damaged art showing her rear rigging blown away to expose her underwear, are direct references to her historical counterpart twice losing or damaging its stern.
