Akishimo is a ship girl in Kantai Collection, representing the 18th ship of the Yuugumo-class destroyers. Introduced during the Autumn 2019 Event, she serves as a lively mood-maker within the fleet. Contrary to the stern impression suggested by her name, she possesses a relaxed, cheerful disposition and a friendly demeanor.

Appearance

She features short silver hair with outward flicks, an asymmetrical side part over her right eye, a long left lock reaching her chest, and hair tips fading into an orange gradient. A maple leaf ornament rests on the side of her head. She wears a long-sleeved white shirt, purple dress, and aqua bowtie, paired with seamed thighhighs. Mid-damage reveals orange underwear. Her rigging includes a back-mounted funnel and foremast, twin 12.7 cm guns, and quad torpedo tubes attached to her thighs. She also possesses a New Year attire variant.

Personality

Contrary to her strict-sounding name, Akishimo is a relaxed, upbeat mood-maker. She refers to herself as "uchi" and speaks in a casual, unique dialect blending regional accents. While addressing the Admiral as "Commander", she maintains a friendly and loose tone, often suggesting naps or delegating paperwork. She cannot cook and relies entirely on Hayashimo for meals. Easily moved to tears, she frequently exclaims how emotional situations are, and takes special pride in the autumn season. In the evening, she shows a quieter, sentimental side when reflecting on past history and expressing gratitude for life.

Akishimo possesses standard combat stats typical of the Yuugumo class. Prior to her Level 30 remodel, her base evasion and anti-air statistics are higher by one point compared to sisters such as Hayashimo and Kiyoshimo. After undergoing remodeling, her overall performance remains balanced across average parameters for her ship class without specialising in any particular stat, relying on standard 12.7 cm twin guns and quad torpedo tubes in battle.

Background

Akishimo was introduced as a drop ship in the fifth sea area during the Autumn 2019 Event. Historically constructed at the Fujinagata Shipyard, she served as part of the reformed 2nd Destroyer Division alongside Asashimo, Hayashimo, and Kiyoshimo. In fleet life, she lacks any cooking skills, depending entirely on her sister ship for daily meals. During evening hours, her dialogue reflects on historical naval battles such as Operation TA and remembers lost comrades, offering a glimpse into her deeper awareness of her history.

Relationships

Akishimo shares a deep, affectionate bond with Hayashimo, calling her "Haya-haya" and relying on her for meals. She frequently attaches playful double-word nicknames to fellow fleet members, calling Naganami "Naga-naga-nee", Akebono "Bono-bono", and Asashimo "Asa-asa". She enjoys a cheerful friendship with Kiyoshimo, playfully treating interaction in port as a joint effort between the Admiral and Kiyoshimo to tickle her.

Trivia

Her name comes from a poetic term for autumn frost. Because her name shares similar characters with other ships like Akigumo of the Kagerou class, fans occasionally confuse the two. Although her artwork shows a single leaf hair ornament, her in-game dialogue suggests that she possesses different varieties of foliage accessories.
