Overview

Mamiya is a non-combatant shipgirl from Kantai Collection, based on the Imperial Japanese Navy food supply ship of the same name. Rather than taking part in naval sorties, she functions as a base support character who operates a sweet shop and eatery for the fleet. In the game, using her dedicated item card allows players to instantly cure the fatigue of an entire fleet by serving them delicious treats. With her gentle demeanor and motherly aura, she is widely beloved as a comforting figure at the naval base.

Appearance

Mamiya has long brown hair adorned with a red ribbon and hairclip, red eyes, and a notably large bust. She wears a pink collared shirt underneath a traditional white kappougi apron, paired with a long blue skirt, white socks, and grey rudder-shaped sandals. Her back-mounted rigging features a ship hull equipped with a funnel, mast, bridge, and a crane hanging a block of konnyaku. She carries an ice cream cone in her right hand and a food basket containing sweets in her left hand. She also appears in a revealing Santa costume and a black two-piece swimsuit.

Personality

Mamiya possesses a cheerful, kind, and motherly personality, acting as a warm and reassuring elder-sister figure within the base. She takes great pleasure in caring for fatigued fleet members, restoring their spirits with her homemade confectioneries and fresh meals. Her thoughtful hospitality creates a relaxing atmosphere for everyone around her. Despite her serene nature, she occasionally displays a playful side during seasonal events by preparing humorously giant traditional dishes for the base to share.

Abilities

As a non-combat support NPC, Mamiya cannot be deployed into battle fleets. Activating her item card on the organization screen instantly clears the fatigue status of every ship in the selected fleet. By serving ice cream and confectioneries, she can also grant shipgirls—especially destroyers and certain mature-looking ships—a sparkling high-morale state. Additionally, her item icon flashes on screen to detect subtle, unindicated hidden fatigue accumulated by fleet members.

Background

Mamiya is modeled after the historical Imperial Japanese Navy food supply ship Mamiya, built using reallocated treaty funds and spare machinery. Equipped with extensive refrigeration facilities and professional artisan kitchens, the real ship boosted troop morale on the front lines by producing traditional sweets and ice cream. In Kantai Collection, she operates the base's sweet shop and dining hall, which is frequented daily by various shipgirls, including newly arrived foreign vessels. Together with her junior supply ship counterpart, Irako, she oversees the culinary wellbeing of the fleet.

Relationships

Mamiya shares a close partnership with Irako, her junior supply ship counterpart, with whom she frequently appears during seasonal events. Alongside the aircraft carrier Houshou, she is recognized as one of the naval base's primary maternal cooks, often collaborating to prepare meals for the fleet. She also shares common non-combat support roles with base personnel such as Akashi and Ooyodo. During Setsubun, her creation of massive sushi rolls surprised ships like Ise and Yamato.

Trivia

The vessel's name originates from the Mamiya Strait. To prevent coal smoke and soot from contaminating food during preparation, the historical ship was constructed with an unusually tall smokestack, and nearly sixty percent of her onboard crew were professional food artisans. Because her presence dramatically sustained front-line morale, the US Navy designated Mamiya, alongside the repair ship Akashi, as a top-priority target to sink. Her historical service was featured in a 2015 episode of the NHK documentary series Rekishi Hia Historia.
