Overview
Nisshin is a character from Kantai Collection representing the lead ship of the Nisshin-class seaplane tenders. Despite her class classification, she possesses exceptional combat capabilities rivaling a light cruiser and supports the fleet in shrine maiden-inspired attire.
Appearance
She has long black hair styled into a high ponytail tied twice with a red ribbon and hair bands, accompanied by short, thick eyebrows and brown eyes. Her outfit consists of a red and white suikan with a slitted red hakama, paired with tabi socks and okobo-style footwear with rudder designs. Her rigging includes a split hull with 14cm twin gun mounts on her back, a flight deck apron, a hair ornament modeled after a rangefinder and radar, and a catapult shaped like a folding fan.
Personality
She speaks a native Hiroshima dialect using archaic pronouns that give her a distinct, grandmotherly tone. Energetic and highly competitive, she gets easily carried away and hates showing vulnerability. Despite her prideful tendencies, she is exceptionally friendly, attentive to others, and skilled at household chores and cooking, while enjoying good food and alcohol.
Abilities
Operating as a high-speed vessel, she features extraordinary firepower, torpedo power, and evasion stats for a seaplane tender. Initially equipped with 14cm twin gun mounts and midget submarines, her final form gains four equipment slots. She can equip medium-caliber guns, landing craft, large searchlights, and large flying boats, though using guns larger than her standard caliber reduces her accuracy.
Background
Nisshin was introduced as the completion reward for the final map of the Winter 2018 event. Designed historically as a minelayer intended for conversion into a midget submarine tender before being reclassified, her unique origin gives her surface combat stats far superior to standard seaplane carriers.
Relationships
She maintains close ties with fellow seaplane tenders like Chitose, Chiyoda, and Mizuho, as well as destroyers such as Isokaze and Maikaze, even graciously accepting Isokaze's cooking. Toward the Admiral, she speaks with informal familiarity, forming a warm, grandparent-and-grandchild-like dynamic built on mutual appreciation.
Trivia
Her character design was created by bob. Due to name similarity, players sometimes confuse her with the coastal defense ship Hifuri. Equipping a large flying boat onto her triggers a unique mechanic where the slot capacity adjusts to one while temporarily returning supply resources.
