Overview
Mochizuki is a shipgirl from Kantai Collection, representing the 11th Mutsuki-class destroyer of the Imperial Japanese Navy. As one of the few glasses-wearing characters in the game, she is defined by her extremely sluggish demeanor and laid-back attitude.
Appearance
Mochizuki has long, bright brown hair, bright brown eyes, and wears red under-rim glasses. Her frame is slightly smaller than those of Kisaragi and Yayoi. She wears a black sailor uniform with red accents, paired with a white scarf and a crescent moon ornament on her left front collar. Unlike other Mutsuki-class destroyers, her footwear consists of plain white socks and brown loafers. Her equipment features depth charges strapped to her left waist with a belt, triple torpedo tubes mounted above her ankles, a shield on her right arm, and a single-mount naval gun held in her left hand like a pistol.
Personality
Mochizuki is constantly sluggish and exhibits a lazy, unmotivated personality. She frequently complains about actions being too bothersome and prefers remaining idle to avoid physical effort. Beneath her reluctance to work, however, she genuinely treasures her time with others.
Abilities
As a destroyer shipgirl, Mochizuki operates armed equipment in naval combat. She wields a single-mount cannon held like a handgun alongside ankle-mounted triple torpedo tubes and waist-bound depth charges for anti-surface and anti-submarine tasks.
Background
Laid down in 1926 as Destroyer No. 33, she was later named Mochizuki and served in the 30th Destroyer Division during World War II. She participated in major early operations including the invasion of Wake Island and transport missions to Guadalcanal. After countless grueling round trips between Japan and the southern front for repairs and resupply, she was sunk by an air attack off New Britain Island in October 1943.
Relationships
Mochizuki maintains strong bonds with her Mutsuki-class sister ships, particularly Mikazuki and Uzuki. She is frequently paired with Mikazuki and shared a long history of service with Uzuki. Additionally, she gets along remarkably well with Hatsuyuki due to their shared lazy nature.
Trivia
The name Mochizuki was later inherited by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Takatsuki-class destroyer DD-166. Commissioned with its initial home port at Sasebo, the second-generation vessel served for decades before being reclassified and eventually decommissioned in 1999.
