Appearance
Sakawa has short purple hair with a prominent hair antenna and drooping eyes. She wears the signature Agano-class white serafuku top with blue trim that leaves her midriff exposed, paired with a short red pleated skirt, a blue necktie, and white gloves covering up to her elbows. Her legwear is asymmetrical, consisting of a single black thighhigh sock with a garter strap on her left leg and grey rudder footwear. Her rigging includes a backpack-style unit with a bridge, funnel, and radar mast, main gun mounts operated by joysticks, a flight deck and torpedo tubes on her left leg, and an anti-aircraft mount on her right ankle. Compared to her sisters, she has a smaller bust size.
Personality
Sakawa has a cheerful, innocent, and somewhat childlike personality with a high-energy demeanor. She regularly incorporates peculiar, sound-effect-like vocal quirks into her speech. She is openly affectionate toward the Admiral, showing her fond feelings directly and clingily. Despite her playful attitude, she maintains a determined posture when entering battle.
Abilities
As a light cruiser, her statistics generally follow the Agano class, though her firepower is lower due to her lack of combat experience. However, her anti-submarine status is slightly superior, allowing her to meet early pre-emptive anti-submarine attack requirements faster than her sisters. She also exhibits relatively high base and upgraded luck stats. During specific event operations related to Operation Crossroads, she gains exceptional damage bonuses against enemy bosses.
Background
First introduced as a final reward in the Spring 2014 event, Sakawa became available in normal maps later on. Historically completed near the war's end, she spent her operational life in home waters due to acute fuel shortages, later serving as a repatriation vessel before being sunk as a target ship in the Operation Crossroads atomic tests at Bikini Atoll.
Relationships
She is the youngest of the Agano-class sisters, which includes Agano, Noshiro, and Yahagi. Although historical circumstances prevented her from fighting alongside her sisters, she is shown interacting affectionately with them, particularly Yahagi. She also displays a close respect for the battleship Nagato, who served alongside her in historical post-war tests and provided training.
Trivia
Her namesake, the Sakawa River, is notably the only Class 2 river designated as a ship name for the Imperial Japanese Navy. Although fan works sometimes joke about her name sounding like alcohol, she does not consume alcohol at the naval base bar counter.
