Overview

Destroyer Water Oni is an Abyssal boss character appearing in the browser game Kantai Collection. Debuting as the final boss of the Fall 2015 Event, she belongs to the Water Oni class. Despite being categorized as a destroyer, she possesses high durability and heavy armor comparable to capital ships, acting as a major endgame threat.

Appearance

She features long silver-white hair, sharp red eyes, and pale skin. On her head, she wears a red-glowing helmet modeled after a Destroyer I-Class, which, when armor-debuffed, falls off to reveal a short side ponytail. She wears a torn, sleeveless black outfit with a red ribbon at the collar, paired with black gloves, black boots, and thigh holster belts instead of a skirt. Attached to her back and hips is Abyssal rigging shaped like monstrous arms: the right hand holds a 5-inch twin gun, while the left hand's fingers serve as torpedo launch tubes. She constantly clutches a single blue ribbon in her hand.

Personality

She exhibits a sadistic nature, taking pleasure in sinking her enemies in the dark. Paradoxically, she holds a deep terror of the night and darkness itself. When under attack from unseen directions, she becomes flustered and agitated, and upon defeat, she expresses tragic grief over the coldness, darkness, loneliness, and pain of remaining trapped on the ocean floor.

Abilities

Despite being classified as a destroyer, she features four equipment slots, fitted with 5-inch twin guns, 22-inch late-model torpedoes, and Abyssal surface radar. She boasts extraordinarily high durability and armor, delivering heavy daylight shelling alongside night battle double attacks and cut-ins. Under high-difficulty final configurations, she equips Abyssal Submarine Torpedoes to execute powerful opening torpedo strikes.

Background

She debuted as the final boss of the Vella Gulf-themed final map during the Fall 2015 Event. She represents the Abyssal manifestation of the Kagerou-class destroyer Hagikaze, who sank during a night encounter in the Solomons, sharing mirrored design traits and attire with her. She later returned as an enemy boss in subsequent events, such as the Spring 2016 Event.

Relationships

She is the Abyssal counterpart to the Kagerou-class destroyer Hagikaze, sharing a mirrored pose, matching red collar ribbon, and identical hairstyle revealed upon debuffing. The blue ribbon held in her hand is connected to the aircraft carrier Kaga, whose scuttling Hagikaze assisted with following the Battle of Midway.

Trivia

During her debut in the Fall 2015 Event, her ship class icon was labeled as Water Oni, but this icon was later changed to standard Oni during her reappearance in the Spring 2016 Event. The mechanic of defeating specific PT Imp Pack enemies within the map to remove her helmet served as a visual representation of her armor being broken.
