Overview
Tokitsukaze is a character in Kantai Collection who personifies the 10th vessel of the Kagerou-class destroyers of the Imperial Japanese Navy. She was initially introduced as an event reward in the summer of 2014. Historically and in-game, she belongs to the 16th Destroyer Division alongside her squadmates Yukikaze, Hatsukaze, and Amatsukaze. Characterized by her bright, puppy-like nature and unique attire, she serves as a lighthearted member of the fleet.
Appearance
Tokitsukaze has dark brown short hair with long sidelocks reaching her collarbone, a side ahoge, and a white color gradient near the tips of her side locks. She has brown eyes. On her head, she wears a black mini hat shaped like a ship's funnel, and around her neck is a yellow neckerchief fixed with a small chained anchor. Her outfit consists of an oversized white long-sleeved shirt with a blue sailor collar, tied at the left side of the hem, exposing her white side-tie panties and the top of her lowleg black pantyhose with side seams. On her feet are red rudder high-heeled shoes. Her rigging features a large quad torpedo launcher attached to a waist joint and a 12.7cm twin gun mount carried like a shoulder pouch.
Personality
Tokitsukaze has a playful, cheerful, and innocent personality. She is quite affectionate toward the Admiral, whom she addressees with a distinctive slight lisp as "Shiree." She frequently repeats her words or phrases twice in conversation. Despite her childish enthusiasm and dog-like clinginess, she strongly dislikes reckless military operations or fighting in waters without air superiority. While she is generally friendly, she will blunt and immediately swat away any uninvited touching.
Abilities
In combat, Tokitsukaze performs as a standard destroyer with overall balanced stats. Upon reaching level 30, her remodel equips her with a 12.7cm Twin High-angle Gun Mount (Late Model), a specialized piece of gear useful for destroyer operations.
Background
The historical Tokitsukaze was constructed at Uraga Dock and assigned to the 16th Destroyer Division under the 2nd Torpedo Squadron. She took part in various Pacific theater operations, including rescuing survivors from the carrier Ryuujou and assisting in the evacuations from Guadalcanal. In March 1943, she was critically disabled by Allied air attacks during the Battle of the Bismarck Sea and was subsequently abandoned and sunk. In the game, she was introduced as a limited event reward before later being added to standard map drops.
Relationships
Tokitsukaze maintains close relationships with her 16th Destroyer Division squadmates: Yukikaze, Hatsukaze, and Amatsukaze. She shares a particularly strong bond with Yukikaze, frequently referencing her and acting as her close companion. She is also very friendly and clingy toward the Admiral.
Trivia
Her name Tokitsukaze means "a wind that blows according to the season." Due to sharing a name with the famous Tokitsukaze sumo stable, she is occasionally associated with sumo-related fan jokes.
