Overview

Phoenix is a light cruiser shipgirl in Kantai Collection based on the fifth vessel of the United States Navy's Brooklyn-class light cruisers. Named after the mythical immortal bird, she exhibits a high-spirited and confident demeanor. Historically, she was transferred to the Argentine Navy after World War II and renamed General Belgrano.

Appearance

She is distinguished by her fiery red long hair with strands falling between her eyes, alongside red and yellow eyes. Her standard portrait presents her from behind. Wearing a uniform and headpiece similar to her sisters, she sports a white sleeveless jacket with chest and waist pockets, a red ascot, a blue skirt, and garter straps. Her ship-hull rigging features triple gun mounts on both sides and opens widely at the back to evoke a phoenix spreading its wings.

Personality

Phoenix is energetic and confident, proudly identifying herself as an immortal phoenix while distinguishing herself from smaller namesakes. She possesses a curious streak, often snooping through the Admiral's desk when left unattended. Though hesitant to prepare her own breakfast, she gladly eats a hearty Japanese meal made by the Admiral, subsequently worrying about gaining weight.

Abilities

As a Brooklyn-class light cruiser, Phoenix delivers naval artillery fire using triple gun mounts attached to both sides of her main rigging. Her specialized back rigging opens outward like broad wings during combat encounters. Furthermore, her naval heritage enables her to undergo additional modernizing remodels into General Belgrano.

Background

Phoenix was added during the Summer 2024 event Operation New MO. After serving in the United States Navy, she was sold post-war to the Argentine Navy, renamed General Belgrano, and served as fleet flagship. In the 1982 Falklands War, she was sunk following a torpedo attack by the Royal Navy nuclear submarine HMS Conqueror.

Relationships

She maintains strong family bonds with her Brooklyn-class sisters, Brooklyn and Honolulu. She also acknowledges the destroyer Hibiki (Verniy) due to their shared association with the phoenix motif. In her hourly voice lines, her attempts to greet Yamashiro and Asagumo of the Nishimura Fleet draw cold glares due to past historical battles, prompting the sole surviving destroyer Shigure to mediate.

Trivia

Her name derives from the capital city of Arizona, which was named after the mythical bird; as Arizona was historical Mexican territory until the 19th century, she fittingly prepares Mexican cuisine for dinner. Additionally, her default artwork is unusually drawn from behind, providing a unique view of the Brooklyn-class uniform and equipment rear structure.
