Barbara

Overview

Barbara is a playable Hydro character in the open-world action RPG Genshin Impact. Serving as a dedicated deaconess for the Church of Favonius in the nation of Mondstadt, she is simultaneously beloved by the populace as the city's shining idol. Wielding a catalyst in tandem with her Hydro Vision, she utilizes her restorative magic and uplifting melodies to tend to the wounded and soothe the weary. Through her earnest determination and cheerful spirit, she brings comfort and motivation to the citizens of Mondstadt.

Appearance

Barbara has bright blue eyes and long, light blonde hair styled into distinctive twin drills. Her default costume features a shoulder-baring white dress with a detached collar, puffy detached long sleeves, a blue-and-white hat, white pantyhose, and fold-over short boots. She also possesses an alternate summer costume named Summertime Sparkle, which consists of a fresh beachside outfit with a short skirt, sandals, a hair flower, and a thigh ring.

Personality

Barbara possesses a gentle, radiant, and hardworking demeanor, dedicated to comforting others through her songs and healing abilities. She firmly believes that genuine effort is the ultimate magic, approaching all her duties with earnest sincerity. Although the overwhelming public attention and expectations sometimes strain her, she manages her stress through quiet moments of relaxation. Notably, she has an unusual fondness for intensely spicy food and frequently prepares custom spicy drinks featuring Jueyun Chilis.

Abilities

Barbara commands a catalyst to deliver Hydro damage and restorative support. Her normal attack, Whispers of Water, fires quick, long-range Hydro projectiles, while her charged attack deals area-of-effect Hydro damage. Her elemental skill, Let the Show Begin♪, summons a Loop of Song that continuously heals the active character, reduces stamina consumption, and enables her attacks to heal the entire party, though it periodically applies the Wet status to the active character. Her elemental burst, Shining Miracle♪, instantly recovers substantial HP for all party members.

Background

Barbara was born to Cardinal Seamus Pegg of the Church of Favonius and Frederica of the Gunnhildr Clan. Following her parents' divorce, she grew up under her father's care. In her youth, she strove to match her exceptionally gifted elder sister, Jean Gunnhildr, by learning swordsmanship, but soon recognized her lack of combat aptitude. Guided by her father, she pivoted to medical magic and support. After learning about the concept of idols from a magazine introduced by Alice, Barbara adopted music to spread cheer throughout Mondstadt.

Relationships

Barbara holds deep love and admiration for her older sister, Jean Gunnhildr. While she addresses Jean formally as Acting Grand Master in public settings, she remains a devoted sister who actively worries about Jean's tendency to overwork. She also shares a close friendship with Noelle, frequently meeting her for tea and mutual encouragement. Furthermore, she receives passionate devotion from her fan club led by Albert, as well as the broader populace of Mondstadt.

Trivia

When Barbara casts skills or attacks in front of non-player characters in towns, they will respond by clapping. The musical notes generated by her elemental skill match the exact melody she hums during her idle animations. Due to her elemental skill repeatedly inflicting the Wet status on the player's active character—which can leave team members vulnerable to being frozen by Cryo enemies—she earned the humorous player nickname of an internal spy among the community.
