Nilou

Overview

Nilou is a character from the open-world action RPG Genshin Impact. She serves as the star dancer at the Zubayr Theater, located in the Grand Bazaar of Sumeru City. Wielding a Sword alongside a Hydro Vision, she captivates audiences with her mesmerizing performances that immerse viewers in fictional stories. Though she radiates an ethereal, almost surreal presence on stage, off-stage she remains an approachable, warm-hearted, and innocent young woman.

Appearance

Nilou features aqua eyes and long red hair styled in lower twintails with parted, straight-cut bangs. She wears a white veil paired with a golden and black two-horned circlet and forehead jewelry. Her ensemble consists of a blue-and-white dancer costume featuring a crop top, long puffy detached sleeves, golden trim, a brooch, an ankle ring, sandals, and manicured nails. A large blue bow rests on her back, securing her Hydro Vision. She also possesses an alternate costume called Breeze of Sabaa.

Personality

Nilou is gentle, pure-hearted, and always ready to share a smile. Deeply empathetic and peace-loving, she connects easily with others down to earth. While she admits to struggling with complex academic logic or resolving malicious hostility, she firmly holds on to her emotional sensibilities and values deep interpersonal bonds. Despite her mild demeanor, she possesses remarkable inner strength, refusing to abandon her core values or compromise her passion for dance when confronted with unfair authority.

Abilities

Nilou fights with a sword, dealing Hydro damage scaled primarily off her maximum HP. Her Elemental Skill, Seven Realms' Dance, enters a Pirouette state allowing her to transition into either Sword Dance steps to fire water-blade waves or Whirling Steps to create a lingering Water Wheel around the active character. Her passive talent, Court of Dancing Petals, alters normal Dendro Cores into instantly exploding Bountiful Cores with increased area and damage, active specifically when her team party is composed solely of Hydro and Dendro characters.

Background

As the main star of the Zubayr Theater, Nilou dedicates her life to bringing joy to the people of the Grand Bazaar. Devoted to Lesser Lord Kusanali, she organized the Sabzeruz Festival to perform the historic Dance of Sabzeruz. When the Akademiya's Grand Sage Azar attempted to ban her performance and trapped the city in a repeating dream samsara, Nilou helped break the cycle upon realizing she was the host of the dream, ultimately completing her miraculous dance. She later assisted in defending her theater from demolition and joined the effort to rescue Lesser Lord Kusanali.

Relationships

Nilou holds deep reverence for Lesser Lord Kusanali (Nahida), organizing the festival in her honor. She shares a close friendship with Dunyarzad, a noblewoman who supported her performances, and is acquainted with Dunyarzad's bodyguard Dehya. When an Akademiya official named Sharif sought to demolish the theater, Nilou welcomed his estranged daughter Anaya into the troupe and eventually helped reconcile the father and daughter. The merchant Dori views Nilou as exceptionally pure-hearted, though overly modest about her true commercial worth.

Trivia

Her name 'Nilou' is derived from 'Niloufar,' a Persian female name meaning blue lotus or water lily. Her ceremonial attire is inspired by the legendary figure of the Goddess of Flowers, and her horned headpiece draws design motifs from Hathor, the Egyptian deity of dance and music. When cooking specialty dishes, she can prepare 'Sparkling Dance,' a variation of Padisarah Pudding.
