Overview
Iansan is a character from the Natlan region in Genshin Impact, residing within the Collective of Plenty. Recognized as the bearer of the Ancient Name "Uwezo"—which translates to power—she works as an elite fitness instructor and athletic coach despite her petite stature. Beyond her role in training warriors, she is chosen as one of the six heroes who fight alongside the Pyro Archon Mavuika to defend Natlan from the destructive invasion of the Abyss. On the battlefield, she wields a polearm and commands Electro Vision power, acting as a dynamic supporter who enhances her teammates' offensive capabilities.
Appearance
Iansan has dark skin, green eyes, pointed ears, and long white hair styled into low twintails. She possesses a small, child-like stature. Her outfit features a headband adorned with an animal skull, along with accessories such as earrings, rings, detached sleeves, and asymmetrical socks. Unlike other characters of similar small proportions, her running motion is distinguished by an athletic sprint that maintains steady core posture.
Personality
Iansan is calm, analytical, and intensely dedicated to health and fitness, strictly practicing early sleep routines and low-sugar, low-sodium nutrition. Because of her youthful appearance, newcomers often underestimate her abilities, but she calmly disproves their doubts through demonstrations of astonishing strength and stamina. As a trainer, she tailors workout plans to each individual's personal needs, though her grueling regimens often exhaust her trainees. Despite the intensity of her methods, her professionalism and proven results earn her profound respect from those she instructs.
Abilities
Iansan commands Electro power with a polearm in battle. Her Elemental Skill, Thunderbolt Sprint, grants her the Night Soul's Blessing state, executing a forward charge and enabling high-speed movement over land, water, or liquid phlogiston, while granting an un-stamina-draining heavy attack called Lightning Step. Her Elemental Burst, Three Principles of Power, deploys a mobile momentum meter that tracks the active character's movement distance to continuously replenish Night Soul points and grant substantial attack power buffs to the party, alongside secondary healing capabilities when Night Soul recovery occurs.
Background
Iansan comes from the lineage of Egungun blood, a bloodline whose members remain small throughout their lives without inheriting innate powers. When assigned the Ancient Name "Uwezo," meaning power, many questioned her suitability. In response, she devoted herself to analyzing physical training and exercise nutrition, turning effort into unmatched athletic prowess. Establishing herself as Natlan's premier fitness trainer in the Collective of Plenty, she produced numerous elite champions. After proving her capability in the Pilgrimage of the Return of the Sacred Flame, she was appointed as one of the six heroes chosen to assist Mavuika, defending Natlan against the Abyss.
Relationships
Iansan serves alongside Mavuika, the Pyro Archon, fighting together in the defense of Natlan. She maintains a close bond with her former pupil Kachina, actively joining the expedition to rescue her from the Night Kingdom. Varesa is her devoted student who enthusiastically hands out promotional flyers for her training courses. She also collaborates with the Traveler to assist traumatized soldiers and formulate Ancient Names. Additionally, she holds lingering memories of Imola, her deceased Saurian companion who occasionally appears in her dreams.
Trivia
Iansan's name derives from Oya-Iansan, a storm and lightning deity in Yoruba mythology, as well as the deity Iansã in Brazilian folklore. Her constellation, Carnotaurus, is named after a genus of carnivorous theropod dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous period. The dumbbell she carries is a custom creation by Chilonen, which is extraordinarily heavy despite its small size. The skull ornament on her headband contains the ghost of a young rhino saurian named Aley, bound to the skull through Sitlali's secret magic, serving as her training companion.
