Layla is a student at the Sumeru Akademiya's Rtawhaist Darshan, specializing in theoretical astrology, from the game Genshin Impact. She possesses a Cryo Vision and wields a sword in combat. Burdened by heavy academic expectations, she works tirelessly on star charts and research papers while dealing with extreme sleep deprivation. When exhausted, she enters a sleepwalking state where a distinctly confident alter ego emerges to finish her complex assignments, earning her eccentric reputes throughout the region.

Appearance

She features long blue hair styled with drill sidelocks, golden eyes with noticeable dark circles under them, and pointed ears. Her outfit consists of a blue hood, a short cape, bare shoulders with detached sleeves, black gloves, and claw rings. She wears white pantyhose and high heels, dressed in black and blue attire accented with gold trim.

Personality

Normally, Layla is anxious, self-doubting, and easily overwhelmed by high academic demands. Despite her peers viewing her as a genius, she lacks confidence and frequently stresses over meeting expectations. However, her sleepwalking alter ego exhibits a bold, self-assured demeanor. This alternate persona takes pride in her capabilities and actively works behind the scenes to complete tasks and encourage the primary self.

Abilities

In battle, her Elemental Skill creates a Cryo shield based on her maximum Health while dealing area damage. As the shield persists, it accumulates Night Stars that transform into homing Shooting Stars to attack enemies once four stacks are gathered. Her Elemental Burst deploys a celestial sphere that automatically fires projectiles dealing Cryo damage. Her combat role focuses primarily on shield support and off-field Cryo application.

Background

Hailing from a rural area north of Sumeru City, she carries the bloodline of the ancient desert nation of Tulaytullah. After joining the Akademiya, her academic talent placed heavy strain on her daily life, causing severe insomnia. Experiencing moments where incomplete work was mysteriously finished overnight while asleep, she believed she was receiving divine starry blessings. Through various town events and travels, she gradually confronts her stress and learns to rely on her own steps forward.

Relationships

During the Nilotpala Cup, she befriended a floating Anemo Fungus named Bouncy-Twirly and bonded with characters like Yae Miko, Haniyyah, and the Traveler. In Akademiya events, she interacts with fellow contestants such as Kaveh, Faruzan, and Cyno. She also works alongside Dori on business trips, receives protection from Candace in Aaru Village, and values her supportive friendship with the Traveler.

Trivia

Her name derives from the Arabic and Hebrew word for night. To help herself sleep, she enjoys drinking warm milk, but she despises overly expensive sleep remedies that drain her budget. One of her idle animations features text derived from the historical astronomical treatise kitāb fī jawāmiʿ ʿilm al-nujūm.
