Overview
Madame Ping, also known by her adeptus title Streetward Rambler, is a character appearing in the video game Genshin Impact. Residing at Yujing Terrace in Liyue Harbor, she initially presents herself as a gentle, unassuming elderly woman. In truth, she is one of Liyue's ancient adepti. Having chosen to age naturally and live among mortals rather than remaining isolated in the mountains, she offers wisdom, guidance, and assistance to the Traveler, including bestowing the spatial realm item known as the Serenitea Pot.
Appearance
In her present form, she appears as an elderly woman with white hair and glasses, dressed in traditional Chinese clothing. In her youth, she featured blue-to-aqua hair styled with side braids, sidelocks, parted bangs, and a hair ornament, paired with purple and blue eyes. Her attire consisted of a dress with bare shoulders, wide detached sleeves, and the Cleansing Bell attached at her waist.
Personality
In her past, she was lively, enjoying music, wine, and social gatherings. Over time, she grew into a serene, compassionate elder who deeply appreciates humanity. Unlike other adepti who prefer seclusion in the wild, she enjoys the quiet rhythm of mortal life in the city. She possesses a maternal and highly caring nature, often showing an affectionate, slightly overprotective side toward her pupils and charges.
Abilities
She is a master of martial arts using a polearm and can impart her combat techniques and adeptal arts to her disciples. Utilizing the authority of sub-space creation, she can forge pocket dimensions inside objects, which enabled her to craft the Serenitea Pot. In combat support, she can bestow adeptal energy that generates powerful shockwaves bypassing defenses. Additionally, she possesses exceptional musical abilities, skilled in playing the guqin and harnessing sonic vibrations.
Background
Thousands of years ago, Streetward Rambler engaged in friendly rivalries over music and mechanics with Guizhong, the God of Dust. Following Guizhong's tragic demise during the Archon War, she obtained the Cleansing Bell from Rex Lapis and spent years in solitary reflection, composing a final melody. She later chose to discard her youthful form and age like a mortal, adopting the name Madame Ping and settling down in Liyue Harbor to quietly watch over its people while passing on her knowledge.
Relationships
She maintains a deep, respectful relationship with Rex Lapis (Zhongli), instantly recognizing his intentions during Liyue's rite. She is close friends with fellow adepti such as Cloud Retainer (Xianyun), Mountain Shaper, and Moon Carver. As a master, she took in Xiangling and Yaoyao as her disciples to train them in martial arts, and she acts as a guardian and housemate to the half-adeptus Yanfei.
Trivia
Due to the immensely powerful true-damage buff she grants during the Osial battle segment, fans humorously refer to her as a '6-star character'. Fans also frequently contrast her training style and fashion influence on her pupils—who favor short tunics and open-toed footwear—with the full-body suit aesthetic seen in Xianyun's disciples.
