Overview

Jakob Ingold is a major character in the Fontaine storyline of Genshin Impact, serving as a prominent researcher and co-founder of the Narzissenkreuz Ordo. Left an orphan after the Siege of Poisson roughly five centuries ago, he was raised at the Narzissenkreuz Institute and later transformed into a "Neohuman" using Abyssal power by his adoptive brother, Rene de Petrichor. Driven to save humanity from a predicted apocalyptic flood, Jakob worked tirelessly to research Abyssal energies and advance the Ordo's agenda, ultimately meeting his demise following a conflict with the Traveler.

Appearance

In his human form, Jakob appears as a man with brown hair and green eyes. During combat, he transforms into the shape of an Iniquitous Baptist, manipulating elements such as Hydro, Cryo, and Pyro. He also carried a feather accessory given to him by Vice Director Basil and a pocket watch received from Alain.

Personality

As a child at the Narzissenkreuz Institute, Jakob was a sensitive crybaby who enjoyed playing the role of a wizard in games with his friends. As he grew up under the influence of Abyssal powers, he developed a cold, determined personality. He possessed unwavering loyalty to Rene, showing a ruthless willingness to perform human experiments and resort to extreme actions to fulfill their shared vision. Although he wielded the power of the Abyss, he held the Abyss Order in contempt, treating their energy merely as a tool for his own objectives.

Abilities

After being mutated with Abyssal power by Rene, Jakob became a Neohuman who did not require food and gained superhuman physical capabilities. He could absorb the flesh and blood of Elynas without fatal rejection to further empower himself, open portals to summon Rifthounds, and transform into an Iniquitous Baptist. In addition to his combat capabilities, he possessed extraordinary research skill, establishing complex theories on Primordial Seawater, manipulating seal formulas, and guiding the forging of the Holy Blade of Narzissenkreuz.

Background

Born as the son of Eduardo Baker, Jakob became an orphan following the Siege of Poisson and was brought to the Narzissenkreuz Institute. After the Institute collapsed during the cataclysm, he was adopted by Karl Ingold. During an expedition to the Vourukasha Oasis, he fell critically ill and was saved when Rene injected him with Abyssal power. Later becoming a researcher at the Institute of Natural Philosophy, he co-founded the Narzissenkreuz Ordo to forestall the apocalypse. Centuries after the battle inside Elynas, he awakened in the modern era to reactivate Elynas's heart and forge the Holy Blade of Narzissenkreuz, but was ultimately killed by a falling clock hand in the Gestalt tower.

Relationships

Jakob was the biological son of Eduardo Baker and was later adopted by Karl Ingold. He shared a profound, lifelong bond with his adoptive brother and closest friend, Rene de Petrichor (Narzissenkreuz). His childhood companions from the Institute, Alain Guillotin and Mary-Ann Guillotin, eventually became his adversaries due to ideological conflicts. In an attempt to save the terminally ill research assistant Carter Sherbius, Jakob and Rene subjected him to Abyssal mutation, a failed experiment that later gave birth to Caterpillar.

Trivia

The Hydro frog "Jak" from the Narzissenkreuz Adventure Team derives its name from Jakob. During his childhood games at the Institute, he was regularly assigned the role of the wizard. Later as a researcher, he utilized theatrical tricks and demonstrations to attract followers and resources to the Narzissenkreuz Ordo.
