After an attempt by the Sumeru Akademiya and the Fatui to elevate him into an artificial deity named Shouki no Kami, he was defeated by the Traveler and Nahida. Overview

Wanderer is an Anemo catalyst wielder in the open-world RPG Genshin Impact. Originally created by the Electro Archon Raiden Ei as a vessel for her Gnosis, he was known over the centuries by names such as the Kabukimono, Kunikuzushi, and Scaramouche (The Balladeer), the Sixth of the Fatui Harbingers. After an attempt by the Sumeru Akademiya and the Fatui to elevate him into an artificial deity named Shouki no Kami, he was defeated by the Traveler and Nahida. Having subsequently sought to alter his past, he reclaimed his true memories and now operates freely within Sumeru while affiliated with the Akademiya's Vahumana darshan.

Appearance

Wanderer possesses a youthful, short-stature appearance with short purple hair styled with blunt ends, distinct purple eyes, and subtle red eyeshadow. He wears a prominent wide-brimmed hat decorated with tassels and ribbons. His outfit features a fusion of Japanese-inspired clothing elements including a mandarin-collar inner layer, an open sleeveless vest in blue and black tones, dark short pants, and traditional wooden footwear (geta) worn with foot socks. Visual traits of his puppet anatomy, such as visible ball-and-socket joints, were also part of his original physical form.

Personality

Originally born with an innocent and gentle disposition, a sequence of tragic misunderstandings and perceived betrayals hardened him into an arrogant, cynical, and sharp-tongued individual who expressed disdain for human emotions. He developed a deeply guarded, caustic demeanor as a defense mechanism against emotional harm. Upon confronting his past and recovering his memories, he retains his sarcastic and abrasive exterior, yet demonstrates a quiet willingness to shoulder responsibility for his past actions and occasionally shows understated helpfulness toward others.

Abilities

As an Anemo catalyst user, Wanderer possesses the ability to hover and maneuver through the air using wind currents while delivering rapid wind-blade attacks from high vantage points. Prior to his current form, his modified puppet body allowed him to endure deep abyss exploration, and during his awakening as Shouki no Kami, he operated a colossal mechanical body fueled by Electro energy and a Gnosis. Beyond combat, his artificial nature grants him advanced aptitude for mastering human practical skills such as swordsmanship, forging, and crafting.

Background

Created by Raiden Ei as a prototype for storing her Gnosis, he was sealed within the Pavilion of Shakkei after she deemed him too fragile due to his ability to shed tears. Upon awakening, he spent a peaceful period among the blacksmiths of Tatarasuna, but was led to believe he was betrayed by his close friend Niwa following a crisis orchestrated by Dottore. After another beloved child companion died of illness, he severed ties with humanity, adopted the name Kunikuzushi, and joined the Fatui as Harbinger Scaramouche. After his defeat as an artificial god in Sumeru, he attempted to erase his historical existence via Irminsul, but ultimately reclaimed his past and accepted his new path as the Wanderer.

Relationships

He harbors a deeply conflicted resentment toward his creator, Raiden Ei, for abandoning him. His early bonds with Niwa Nagahide and Katsuragi in Tatarasuna served as the foundation of his fleeting early happiness, making Dottore—who secretly orchestrated the Tatarasuna disaster—his most hated enemy. Following his defeat in Sumeru, Nahida acts as his guardian and mentor, overseeing his newfound life in the Akademiya. His past revenge campaign against the Raiden Gokaden also permanently ties his legacy to Kaedehara Kazuha, a descendant of Niwa's lineage.

Trivia

The name Kunikuzushi is derived from a archetype in traditional Japanese kabuki theater referring to villains who plot to overthrow the state. His Fatui Harbinger title, Scaramouche, originates from a stock character in Italian Commedia dell'arte, while his title 'The Balladeer' references European poetic song traditions. Within Sumeru's Akademiya, he is frequently referred to by the informal moniker 'Hat Guy'.
