Diona

Overview

Diona is a playable character from Mondstadt in the open-world game Genshin Impact. A young girl hailing from the Kätzlein bloodline, she works as a highly popular bartender at the Cat's Tail tavern. Despite her profession, she holds a deep hatred for alcohol and actively seeks to ruin Mondstadt's wine industry. Paradoxically, any beverage she mixes turns out extraordinarily delicious regardless of her attempts to ruin it.

Appearance

Diona has short pink hair tied upward with her bangs pinned back, exposing her forehead. She features green upturned eyes, thick eyebrows, and authentic calico cat ears and tail. Her attire consists of a cap, a midriff-baring top with detached sleeves, and shorts. She wears heel-less short boots, giving her standing posture the appearance of constantly being on her tiptoes.

Personality

Diona possesses a classic tsundere disposition. Having grown up watching her father become unsightly while intoxicated, she harbors an intense disdain for alcohol and constantly attempts to mix terrible concoctions to deter drinkers. Beneath her prickly exterior, she deeply loves her father. Although she strongly denies being treated like a pet cat, she reflexively exhibits feline mannerisms, such as grooming, stretching, and occasionally letting out cat-like vocalizations.

Abilities

Wielding a bow alongside a Cryo Vision, Diona functions as a supportive combatant. Her Normal Attack delivers consecutive arrow shots, while her Charged Attack inflicts Cryo damage. Her Elemental Skill, Icy Paws, fires homing feline claws that deal Cryo damage while creating a protective shield scaled off her maximum HP. Characters protected by this shield gain increased movement speed and reduced stamina consumption. Her Elemental Burst, Signature Mix, throws out a special brew to create an icy mist field, dealing continuous Cryo damage to enemies while regenerating HP for active allies inside the area.

Background

Diona was born in Springvale as the daughter of the hunter Draff. In her youth, she received a secret gift from Callirhoe, the Spring Fairy of Springvale, which unintentionally blessed her with the ability to make any mixed drink taste delicious. As she grew older, she took up a job as a bartender at the Cat's Tail tavern in Mondstadt. She actively tries to ruin the local wine industry by blending bizarre and unappetizing ingredients into her cocktails; however, due to the fairy's gift, every drink she prepares turns out to be an incredible delicacy that delights patrons.

Relationships

Diona holds deep affection for her father, Draff, but often treats him harshly due to his bad drinking habits. She views Diluc, the owner of Dawn Winery, as her ultimate rival and enemy because he represents Mondstadt's wine industry. Conversely, she does not express strong hatred toward Kaeya despite his love for alcohol. She works under Margaret, the owner of the Cat's Tail tavern. Furthermore, her unique cocktail-mixing ability was bestowed upon her as a gift by Callirhoe, the Oceanid inhabiting the spring of Springvale.

Trivia

Her family name, Kätzlein, is derived from the German word for "kitten." Her first name is believed to combine references to Diana, the Roman goddess of the hunt, and Dionysus, the Greek god of wine. Her standing posture on her tiptoes reflects a design inspired by feline anatomy.
