Overview
Ningguang is a playable character in Genshin Impact who serves as the Tianquan among the Liyue Qixing, the governing body of Liyue. As a Geo Catalyst wielder and the master of the floating Jade Chamber, she stands as one of the wealthiest and most influential figures in Teyvat, overseeing Liyue's laws, commerce, and governance. Renowned for her mystery, elegance, and formidable intellect, she plays a central role in guiding Liyue into an era governed by humanity.
Appearance
Ningguang possesses long straight white hair styled with parted bangs and an updo secured by a hair stick, alongside sharp red eyes. Her primary attire consists of a high-collared white qipao dress featuring a fur collar, open shoulders, and deep side slits, complemented by elbow-length gloves, protective claw rings on her fingers, patterned hosiery, and high heels. She also wears a foreign-styled formal dress known as Orchid's Evening Gown and carries a Geo Vision.
Personality
Ningguang is a highly intelligent, pragmatic, and perceptive strategist who navigates Liyue's political and commercial spheres with diplomatic finesse. While she maintains a calm, aloof demeanor in legal and business matters, she displays a warm, sisterly side toward local children and enjoys simple sweet treats. She despises unnecessary extravagance despite her immense wealth, preferring practical efficiency. Deeply committed to Liyue's security, she is willing to make supreme sacrifices for her nation when crisis strikes.
Abilities
In battle, Ningguang commands Geo energy through a Catalyst. Her normal attack fires gems to generate Star Jades, which are then launched alongside her charged attack for heavy damage. Her Elemental Skill, Jade Screen, constructs a barrier that blocks enemy projectiles, deals AoE Geo damage, and boosts Geo damage for allies passing through it. Her Elemental Burst, Starshatter, summons a barrage of homing gems, unleashing additional projectiles if a Jade Screen is active. Her passive talent detects nearby mineral deposits on the mini-map.
Background
Born into poverty, Ningguang once walked barefoot along Liyue's shores selling fruit to support her mother. Through sheer determination and business brilliance, she amassed unimaginable wealth and constructed her floating fortress, the Jade Chamber. During the Osial crisis, she unhesitatingly sacrificed the Jade Chamber by plunging it into the ocean to seal the ancient sea god, successfully transitioning Liyue into an era ruled by its people. She subsequently spearheaded its reconstruction, defending Liyue once more against further oceanic threats.
Relationships
Ningguang works closely with Keqing, a fellow member of the Liyue Qixing, balancing governance responsibilities to maintain Liyue's prosperity. She maintains a unique bond with Beidou, the captain of the Crux fleet; while they frequently bicker over maritime regulations and fines, they harbour deep mutual trust. Ningguang also employs Yelan for clandestine intelligence operations and works alongside allies such as Ganyu, Uncle Tian, and the Traveler to safeguard the realm.
Trivia
Ningguang's title, Tianquan, refers to Megrez, the fourth star of the Big Dipper constellation. Her knack for closing legal loopholes earned her the nickname Tailor of Liyue. Interestingly, she acquired her inactive Geo Vision housing intending to sell it at auction for a profit, only for it to resonate with her upon contact—a turn of events that disappointed her because it destroyed its resale value. She is also the creator of the popular board game Liyue Millennial.
