Overview
Mountain Shaper is a character from the open-world game Genshin Impact. As one of the Adepti—the Mighty Sharpshooters of Liyue—he helped protect the region alongside the Geo Archon for over a millennium. Residing on Mt. Hulao, he is renowned as one of the key Adepti responsible for sealing away the Dragon Lord Azhdaha.
Appearance
In his natural form, he appears as a crane with orange, brown, and white plumage, featuring brown eyes. When disguised in human form under the name Jiehu, he wears red semi-rimless glasses. His hair is multicolored black and red, tied into a high ponytail with a hair ornament and tassels, featuring sidelocks and hair between his eyes. He has red eyeshadow. His attire consists of a traditional Chinese jacket with a mandarin collar, long sleeves, and coattails, worn over black pants and boots. The outfit is detailed with gold trim, a red sash, tassel earrings, a single pauldron, and black gloves.
Personality
Mountain Shaper maintains a solemn and authoritative demeanor fitting for an ancient immortal, yet he possesses a deeply caring and pragmatic nature. Though strict toward trespassers on his mountain, he values his fellow Adepti deeply. He can be surprisingly candid about his shortcomings, such as acknowledging his lack of culinary skills during Shenhe's upbringing. He often displays a reserved and nostalgic sentiment when remembering fallen comrades.
Abilities
He deploys and controls Karst Crawlers around Mt. Hulao, specialized plants that trap unsuspecting trespassers within massive chunks of amber. As an Adeptus, he possesses formidable adeptal energy, which he can grant to others or use to operate ancient weaponry like the Guizhong Cannon during battles against divine threats. Additionally, he can freely shapeshift into a human form.
Background
Having fought alongside the Geo Archon over a thousand years ago, Mountain Shaper was instrumental in protecting Liyue and sealing ancient dangers like Azhdaha. After centuries of seclusion on Mt. Hulao, he re-emerged when news of the Geo Archon's apparent assassination reached him. He joined forces with the Liyue Qixing and the Traveler to defeat Osial. In recent times, he occasionally ventures into Liyue Harbor in human form alongside Moon Carver to observe the changing mortal world.
Relationships
He remains fiercely loyal to Zhongli (the Geo Archon). He shares a tight-knit camaraderie with Moon Carver, Cloud Retainer, and Madame Ping, frequently gathering with them to share news and reminisce about the past. He contributed to raising Shenhe during her youth. He also holds deep affection and nostalgia for the deceased Yaksha, Menogias. Though initially wary of the Traveler, he ultimately grew to acknowledge and respect their efforts.
Trivia
When visiting Liyue Harbor in human disguise, he goes by the alias Jiehu while accompanied by Moon Carver under the name Houzhang. Despite his formal Adeptus roots, he has shown a willingness to participate in mortal festivities, such as flying handmade kites during the Lantern Rite or putting on a comedic disguise as a bandit to assist in resolving family matters for Gaming.
