Overview

Varka is a character in Genshin Impact, serving as the Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius and holding the title of the Knight of Boreas in Mondstadt. Renowned as one of the strongest warriors in the nation, he departed Mondstadt six months prior to the main story on a major expedition to the borders of Teyvat, leaving administrative duties in the hands of Acting Grand Master Jean. Despite his supreme authority, Varka maintains a carefree and approachable demeanor, combining formidable strength with charismatic leadership.

Appearance

Varka is an exceptionally tall male character with medium-length blonde hair and blue eyes, standing noticeably taller than standard tall male models. He possesses visible scars and wears a black shirt under coat attire accented with fur trim. His outfit features long boots, a leg ring, distinct fingerless black gloves that differ between his left and right hands, and a visible Anemo Vision.

Personality

Varka possesses a free-spirited, boisterous, and easygoing demeanor. A heavy drinker who enjoys lighthearted humor and banter, he presents a relaxed image that belies his high status. Underneath his casual exterior lies a strong sense of duty and strategic capability. He is deeply compassionate, regularly extending aid to outcasts and younger knights without judgment, which earns him immense loyalty from his peers.

Abilities

Varka wields an Anemo Vision while combatting opponents with a dual-greatsword technique. His Elemental Skill enters a stance that infuses one blade with Anemo and the other with a swirlable element (Pyro, Hydro, Electro, or Cryo) present among his teammates. Long-pressing the skill allows him to execute a long leap that negates fall damage upon landing. Developed through extensive sparring with the wolf spirit Andrius, his fighting style builds upon ancient knight traditions.

Background

Prior to his expedition, Varka influenced many lives in Mondstadt, such as rescuing Rosaria from bandits and taking in Razor to name him and teach him swordplay. Six months before the main storyline, he mobilized four-fifths of the Knights of Favonius toward the northern border of Nod-Krai, appointing Jean as Acting Grand Master. During the campaign, he crossed paths with the Fatui Harbinger Capitano, established ties with the Pyro Archon Mavuika, and coordinated efforts against the Abyss.

Relationships

Varka leaves Mondstadt's governance to Acting Grand Master Jean, who respects his strength while scolding his lax habits. He acts as a mentor to Razor and a savior to Rosaria, while employing Mika as his trusted messenger. He maintains warm drinking friendships with the Anemo Archon Venti and Natlan's Pyro Archon Mavuika, while agreeing to a practical truce with the Fatui Harbinger Capitano when confronting Abyss threats.

Trivia

Varka's name originates from an Ancient Persian word meaning 'wolf.' Despite his legendary reputation, he considers himself an ordinary person who simply possesses the courage to take extreme risks. He holds a unique artistic sense, which Albedo described as full of novel ideas despite unrefined execution. An extraordinarily heavy drinker capable of consuming ten strong cocktails without effect, he notably lost a drinking contest against the Pyro Archon Mavuika.
