Overview

Venti is a playable Anemo bow user in Genshin Impact. Operating under the unassuming disguise of a free-spirited bard roaming the streets of Mondstadt, his true identity is Barbatos, the Anemo Archon who founded and protects the nation of freedom. While concealing his divine status, he wanders the land composing poetry, drinking wine, and living freely among the mortal populace.

Appearance

Venti has a youthful, androgynous appearance with green eyes and short black hair styled into twin braids that fade into a cyan gradient at the tips. His standard outfit consists of a green beret adorned with a Cecilia flower, a green cape, a frill-collared white shirt with long sleeves, green shorts, white pantyhose, and black loafers, accompanied by a wooden lyre and a fake glass Anemo Vision on his hip. In his divine Archon form, he wears a predominantly white ensemble featuring a midriff-exposing crop top, a hooded capelet, elbow-length gauntlets, short shorts, a single thighhigh sock, and large white feathered wings.

Personality

Venti possesses an easygoing, playful personality centered around his love for music, apples, and alcohol. As an avid drinker, he frequently busks at local taverns to earn dandelion wine, relying on generous patrons when his youthful appearance prevents bartenders from serving him directly. He suffers from a severe cat allergy, causing him to sneeze uncontrollably around felines. Though he often acts evasive or playful—cheerfully accepting playful nicknames given by companions—he strongly opposes tyranny and absolute control, harboring deep wisdom and a heartfelt desire to preserve the freedom of his people.

Abilities

In combat, Venti wields a bow and commands Anemo powers focused on crowd control and mobility. His Elemental Skill, Skyward Sonnet, launches enemies skyward with wind power; holding the skill generates a strong updraft centered on himself, allowing him to launch into the air and facilitate gliding. His Elemental Burst, Wind's Grand Ode, fires an arrow that forms a massive swirling eye of the storm, pulling small enemies into its vortex while dealing multi-stage Anemo damage. This vortex can absorb Pyro, Hydro, Electro, or Cryo elements to trigger continuous Swirl reactions and extra elemental damage. His passive talent also decreases party gliding stamina usage.

Background

Originally a nameless elemental sprite born among the winds, Venti's history began over 2,600 years ago in Old Mondstadt. He befriended a nameless youth who led a rebellion against the tyrant god Decarabian. Following the tyrant's downfall and the youth's death in battle, the sprite ascended as the Anemo Archon, Barbatos. In memory of his fallen friend, he reshaped his physical form to mirror the youth's appearance and reformed Mondstadt's rugged terrain before granting its citizens self-governance. Throughout history, he reawakened during major crises, aiding Vennessa in overthrowing tyrannical nobles a thousand years ago and fighting the shadow dragon Durin alongside Dvalin five centuries ago.

Relationships

Venti's deepest bond lies with the nameless youth whose likeness and musical identity he inherited. Among his divine vassals, he shares a strong connection with the dragon Dvalin and the wolf spirit Andrius. In the present era, he collaborates closely with the Traveler and Paimon—who famously gives him a playful nickname—as well as Jean and Diluc. Historically, he supported the legendary hero Vennessa and maintains an ancient friendship with Morax (Zhongli), the Geo Archon of Liyue. Conversely, he shares a hostile history with the Fatui Harbinger La Signora, who violently stole his Gnosis.

Trivia

The Cecilia flower associated with Venti carries the floral meaning of 'the wanderer's true feelings.' When the astrologer Mona attempted to read Venti's fortune, a fierce gust of wind nearly blew her away, making him the only Mondstadt resident whose fate she could not divine. After the Holy Lyre der Himmel was damaged, Venti temporarily restored its appearance using an illusion. Additionally, fans often note his visual and conceptual similarities to the character Wendy from Honkai Impact 3rd.
