Naberius

Overview

Naberius is a character from Genshin Impact. Known as the Ruler of Life and Maadteraahka, she is one of the Four Shades created by the Primordial One, Phanes, serving as the deity who governs life and creation in Teyvat.

Appearance

In her original form, Naberius has very long gradient white hair styled in a jellyfish cut with an ahoge, hair intakes, a hair ornament, glasses, and yellow eyes featuring X- and Y-chromosome-shaped pupils. She wears an off-shoulder white dress with long wide sleeves, black hands adorned with circuit patterns, and is barefoot. After fusing with Rhinedottir, her physical form displays heterochromatic eyes—a golden left eye and a blue right eye—and a Celtic knot pattern on her shoulder. Behind her floats a double-helix DNA-shaped halo centered around the Flower of Life, which glows blue alongside her right eye when Naberius asserts her presence.

Personality

Naberius possesses a gentle disposition paired with a stern, unwavering reverence for the Heavenly Principles. Even after losing physical control of her body upon being consumed by Rhinedottir, she maintains a resolute internal presence, regularly rejecting and correcting Rhinedottir whenever the alchemist utters sacrilegious or defiant remarks against the divine order.

Abilities

As the Ruler of Life, Naberius possesses authority over living matter, having created various flora, fauna, and humanity. To suppress the natural vitality of the Primordial Sea, she created Egeria to act as its secondary heart. Her own heart carries vast power capable of restoring sanity to those corrupted by the Abyss, and her divine authority over life persists through her fusion with Rhinedottir.

Background

Created by Phanes during the era known as When the Doves Held Branches, Naberius fought alongside her creator and fellow shades to defeat the Seven Sovereigns. After reshaping Teyvat, she helped populate the world with living organisms and humans, later creating Egeria to stabilize the Primordial Sea. Centuries later, her heart was discovered at the center of the world by Rhinedottir and Albedo. Driven mad by Abyssal forces, Rhinedottir devoured Naberius's heart to regain her sanity, forcing the two into a shared existence where Naberius remains active within Rhinedottir's consciousness.

Relationships

Naberius was created by Phanes, who serves as her creator and superior, and she worked alongside her fellow Shades Asmoday, Istaroth, and Ronova. She created Egeria to stabilize the Primordial Sea. After Rhinedottir devoured her heart, Naberius became bound to the alchemist in a single body, regularly checking her disrespectful speech. She was also present when Albedo accompanied Rhinedottir during the discovery of her heart.

Trivia

Her name is derived from the 24th demon of the Goetia in Solomon's 72 spirits. While her demon name was mentioned early on in Albedo's character stories, her identity as the Ruler of Life was formally confirmed in Version 5.6. In the Interlude PV The Limitations of God, her inner dialogue while fused with Rhinedottir is presented visually as on-screen system dialog boxes.
