Overview

Kaeya Alberich is a Cryo sword wielder in Genshin Impact, serving as the Cavalry Captain of the Knights of Favonius in Mondstadt. As the most trusted aide to Acting Grand Master Jean, he is relied upon to handle the city's most intricate and troublesome problems. Blessed with charisma, wit, and an easygoing charm, Kaeya is widely beloved by the citizens of Mondstadt. However, beneath his personable and laid-back exterior lies a sly, cunning mind and a complex heritage tied to the fallen nation of Khaenri'ah.

Appearance

Kaeya features dark skin, star-patterned blue eyes with sharp, upturned brows, and navy-blue hair with a slight greenish tint styled into a side ponytail with an ahoge. He wears a single eyepatch over one eye and a single earring on one ear. His standard attire consists of a dark outfit featuring a single-shoulder cape decorated with a blue fur collar, along with gloves and knee-high boots. He also possesses an alternate theatrical costume titled Sailwind Shadow, designed for playing a dagger-wielding bandit, adorned with elaborate accessories and a short dagger.

Personality

Kaeya presents himself as a relaxed, humorous, and approachable individual who maintains a pleasant demeanor with everyone. Beneath this lighthearted mask, however, he is a pragmatic and sharp intellect who does not hesitate to use provocation, trickery, or manipulative schemes to achieve his goals. He takes pleasure in watching enemies squirm under pressure and often orchestrates situations behind the scenes rather than following rigid knightly protocol. He is a passionate lover of alcoholic beverages, particularly enjoying white wine and dandelion wine cocktails, while disliking unfermented grape juice, and possesses a somewhat eccentric aesthetic taste.

Abilities

Wielding a sword and a Cryo Vision, Kaeya delivers a five-strike normal attack sequence with notably high physical damage scaling. His Elemental Skill, Frostgnaw, releases a cold wave dealing Cryo damage in front of him, healing his health on hit and generating extra energy particles upon triggering Freeze; it can also freeze water surfaces to create solid icy pathways. His Elemental Burst, Glacial Waltz, summons rotating icicles that persist after switching characters, facilitating reactions such as Melt, Superconduct, and Freeze. Additionally, his utility passive reduces sprint stamina consumption for the entire party. His Pavo Ocellus constellation enhances CRIT Rate against Cryo-affected targets, generates a shield when at low HP, and adds an extra icicle to his Burst.

Background

Kaeya is a descendant of the Alberich family, a line of regents from the destroyed nation of Khaenri'ah. Left in Mondstadt by his biological father during childhood to serve as an agent, he was taken in by the Ragnvindr family and raised as an adoptive brother to Diluc Ragnvindr. Over time, the free spirit of Mondstadt softened his ties to his original mission. On the night of their adoptive father Crepus's death, Kaeya disclosed his true identity to Diluc, resulting in a fierce conflict between them during which Kaeya acquired his Cryo Vision and sustained an eye injury. Now serving as the Cavalry Captain of the Knights of Favonius, he actively protects Mondstadt while grappling with his mysterious ancestry and ties to the Abyss Order.

Relationships

Kaeya shares a complex, nuanced dynamic with his adoptive brother Diluc Ragnvindr, transitioning from childhood closeness to past friction, and now exchanging playful retorts and secret aid. As Acting Grand Master Jean's trusted second-in-command, he handles delicate situations on her behalf. He maintains friendly relationships with Mondstadt locals such as Bennett, while serving as a caring guardian figure to Klee and Amber. Towards the Traveler and Paimon, he acts as a clever ally who frequently recruits them into his schemes. During his encounter in Sumeru, Dainsleif confronts Kaeya regarding the weight of his surname, revealing his family's connection to the founder of the Abyss Order.

Trivia

Due to his Elemental Skill's ability to continuously freeze water to construct ice bridges across bodies of water, Kaeya earned the famous player nickname Ice Bridge Architect, which was eventually acknowledged in official web events. His constellation, Pavo Ocellus, translates to the Peacock constellation, a motif reflected across his design and custom attire. Additionally, his signature in-game dish, Fruity Skewers, features his favorite cocktail, Death After Noon, as a secret flavoring ingredient.
