Neuvillette

Overview

Neuvillette is the Chief Justice (Iudex) of Fontaine in the open-world RPG Genshin Impact, serving as the nation's supreme judicial authority beneath the Hydro Archon. Revered by the public and deeply trusted by the Melusine race he oversees, he maintains strict impartiality in court while secretly being the reborn Hydro Dragon Sovereign who holds the ancient elemental authority over water.

Appearance

Neuvillette features long silver hair with blue streaks, styled in a low ponytail with asymmetrical bangs, accompanied by pointy ears, slit pupils, and sharp blue or silver eyes. He wears a navy-blue and black coat with a matching capelet decorated with gold trim, a white frilled ascot, black gloves, and thigh-high boots, usually carrying a cane. An alternate outfit, Melusent Gift, presents him in a relaxed suit presented by the Melusines.

Personality

Neuvillette comes across as aloof, pragmatic, and strictly professional, yet he possesses a deeply empathetic and gentle heart. He never abuses his position and refrains from taking sides, keeping a polite distance from others to remain impartial. Despite his cold demeanor, he feels sorrow over past tragedies and struggles to comprehend human nature. He is also a passionate water connoisseur who tests natural waters from all nations while disliking hot, dry environments.

Abilities

Wielding a catalyst and the Hydro element with Pneuma alignment, Neuvillette functions as a powerful field attacker. His primary combat feature is the special charged attack Equitable Judgment, which releases a massive straight-line torrent of water. By using his Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst, he generates Sourcewater Droplets on the field; absorbing these instantly reduces his charge time and heals his health. His raw strength is formidable enough to knock out armed opponents in a single strike.

Background

Over 400 years ago, Neuvillette assumed the position of Chief Justice at the invitation of the Hydro Archon to understand human society and his own purpose as a dragon born in human form. Early in his tenure, he faced racial prejudice against the Melusines, leading to tragic losses among his allies, but his unwavering fairness eventually earned public trust. During the crisis foretold by Fontaine's ancient prophecy, he reclaimed his full Dragon Sovereign authority to save his nation and become its true leader.

Relationships

Neuvillette acts as a steadfast guide and guardian to Furina, tolerating her theatrical personality while quietly worrying about her emotional burden. He treats the Melusine species under his care with protective tenderness, earning him their fond admiration as an ideal father figure. He also maintains strong professional and personal bonds of mutual respect with Wriothesley, the administrator of the Fortress of Meropide, and Clorinde, the Champion Duelist.

Trivia

According to Fontainian folklore, rain falls whenever the Hydro Dragon cries, a myth that reflects Neuvillette's real emotional connection to the weather. Due to his facial expressions and calm movements, fans and official references often endearingly associate him with an otter. In terms of gameplay mechanics, players frequently take advantage of his continuous beam heavy attack by rotating the camera to hit surrounding enemies over a broad area.
