Beidou

Overview

Beidou is an Electro Claymore-wielding character in Genshin Impact hailing from the region of Liyue. As the leader of the armed fleet known as the Crux, she is widely revered across Liyue under grand titles such as the Uncrowned Lord of the Ocean or Dragon King. Boasting immense popularity among both her loyal crew and the local populace, she leads a boisterous and unfettered life on the open seas. Grounded in exceptional combat prowess, strong ethical convictions, and dynamic leadership, she commands great respect from allies and rivals alike.

Appearance

Beidou features long black hair that partially covers one eye, distinct red eyes, and an eyepatch worn over one eye. Her hairstyle is styled with decorative hair ornaments and a hairpin. Her outfit primarily consists of a high-slitted qipao dress, which she wears paired with over-the-knee boots.

Personality

Beidou is a hearty, generous, and straightforward leader who values personal bonds over strict formality. A heavy drinker with a bold demeanor, she treats her crew members as equals and trusted brethren, earning their utmost devotion. While her strong sense of ethics occasionally leads her to violate Liyue's trade regulations, she accepts the steep fines without complaint and remains resolute in her personal principles.

Abilities

Wielding a Claymore and an Electro Vision under the constellation Southern Cross, Beidou strikes with up to five consecutive slashes or continuous heavy hits. Her Elemental Skill, Tidecaller, delivers an Electro slash on press, while holding it forms a shield scaling with her maximum health to absorb incoming attacks before releasing a devastating Electro counter; timing the skill right as an attack lands yields maximum counter damage. Her Elemental Burst, Stormbreaker, creates a protective shield that grants interruption resistance, damage reduction, and discharges bouncing Electro lightning on normal and charged attacks—an effect that persists even when switching characters. Additionally, her self-inflicting Electro property can activate puzzle mechanics in Inazuma, and her passive talent reduces the party's swimming stamina consumption.

Background

In her youth, Beidou was taken in by a village chief near Wangshu Inn, but after his death and a series of poor fishing harvests, superstitious villagers blamed her as an omen of bad luck and cast her out. Undeterred, she built a formidable reputation, culminating in a legendary four-day battle against the sea monster Haishan. Slaying the beast in a single strike on the fifth morning without a Vision, her heroic feat earned her an Electro Vision from the gods. As captain of the Crux fleet aboard her flagship, the Alcor, she became a prominent maritime figure in Liyue. She later hosted the Crux Clash to assist the Traveler in reaching Inazuma, fought alongside the Watatsumi resistance army, and aided in repelling the sea monster Beisht.

Relationships

Beidou shares a complex, balanced dynamic with Ningguang, the Tianquan of the Liyue Qixing; though Beidou frequently pays heavy fines for regulatory infractions and famously won Mora from her in gambling, Ningguang relies on her to resolve sensitive matters. She harbored Kaedehara Kazuha when he fled Inazuma as a fugitive, bringing him onto her ship as a trusted crewmate. She is a loyal friend to the chef Xiangling, frequently bringing back rare marine ingredients in exchange for her rich cooking, and spends leisure time with Xinyan. During the Inazuma conflict, she joined forces with Sangonomiya Kokomi and Gorou as hired mercenaries, and later befriended Eula in Mondstadt after clearing up an initial misunderstanding.

Trivia

Beidou's flagship, the Alcor, is armed with a version of the adepti-engineered Guizhong Ballista. Her favorite foods lean toward heavily seasoned and spicy flavors, reflected in her specialty dish, Sauteed Meat with Chili. Players frequently draw comparisons between her Elemental Skill's parry mechanic and the posture-deflection gameplay of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
