Overview
Illuga is a playable four-star Geo polearm character in Genshin Impact hailing from Nod-Krai. He serves as a captain within the Nightingale of the Dark Night investigation squad of the Lightkeepers, a vigilante organization dedicated to defending the region against the Wild Hunt. Despite the grim nature of his duties, he maintains an encouraging and attentive demeanor toward his squadmates. Driven by a deep commitment to protect his homeland, Illuga channels his unyielding resolve into safeguarding the peace of Pyramida.
Appearance
Illuga is a young man with short grey-white hair featuring a prominent ahoge, side-swept bangs, and subtle red accents. He has grey-blue eyes, a tear mole beneath his eye, and a visible facial scar. His clothing is built for cold weather, consisting of a turtleneck inner layer, a long-sleeved jacket, a coat adorned with fur trim, black gloves, boots, and an earring. He carries an older-model rear-guard lantern on his person, inside of which resides his glowing messenger bird companion, Aedon.
Personality
Illuga possesses a warm, positive, and attentive demeanor, offering steady encouragement to his comrades despite the grim reality of fighting the Wild Hunt. Beneath his gentle exterior lies a burning determination focused entirely on eradicating threats and protecting the peaceful present. He harbors an intense sense of responsibility born from past tragedy, which sometimes leads him to push himself into dangerous situations. He is also known for insisting on hot meals after freezing night patrols and enjoys playing tabletop role-playing games imported from Fontaine during his leisure time.
Abilities
Illuga functions as a Geo support character utilizing a polearm, specializing in boosting party members' Geo damage and Moon Crystal reaction effectiveness. His Elemental Skill, Break of Dawn, releases his messenger bird Aedon from his lantern to charge at targets, dealing Geo damage based on both his Element Mastery and Defense. His Elemental Burst, Shadowless Light, deals area-of-effect Geo damage and grants stacks of Nightingale's Song, which amplify the Geo damage dealt by active allies using his Element Mastery. His passive talents also increase party movement speed at night, elevate the team's Moon Phase level, and enhance Geo CRIT stats.
Background
During his early childhood, Illuga lost his family to an attack caused by the Wild Hunt. He was rescued by Nikita, the Master Lightkeeper, who adopted and raised him. Determined to transition from someone who was saved to someone capable of protecting others, Illuga repeatedly volunteered to join the Lightkeepers until he gained admission. He took on demanding frontline duties as part of the investigation unit, frequently cooperating with colleagues such as Flinz and Grand Master Varka to combat monster threats and investigate anomalies across Nod-Krai.
Relationships
Illuga's adoptive father is Nikita, the Master Lightkeeper who saved his life in childhood. He shares a close bond with his colleague Flinz, who worries about Illuga's intense burden and affectionately calls him Young Master, though Illuga often deflects his indirect warnings with straightforward responses. Varka, the Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius, holds Illuga in high regard for his tireless dedication and promising abilities. He also maintains strong ties with his childhood friends Paivo and Joana.
Trivia
Illuga continues to use an outdated rear-guard lantern issued during his early days in support units, refusing to replace it due to personal attachment. He surprisingly regards his luminescent bird companion Aedon as a completely ordinary bird despite its supernatural behavior. He is known to express annoyance if served cold food following freezing night duties. The title of the world quest centered on him, Song of the Nightingale, derives its name from the nightingale bird, historically associated with graves.
