Mona

Overview

Astrologist Mona Megistus is a playable Hydro character who wields a Catalyst in the open-world RPG Genshin Impact. Hailing from Mondstadt, she is an exceptionally skilled and knowledgeable scholar who proudly calls herself a great astrologer. Despite her professional acclaim and published works in academic publications, she strictly refuses to use astrology for commercial gain, which constantly leaves her struggling with finances and living a remarkably frugal lifestyle.

Appearance

Mona is a young woman with long black hair styled into twintails and green eyes. Her default look features a large witch hat, star earrings, detached sleeves, gloves, a cape, high heels, and a high-cut blue leotard paired with black pantyhose. She can also wear her alternate outfit, 'Pact of Stars and Moon,' which offers a slightly more covered chest area, replacing the high-leg look with a bodycon style outfit paired with thigh-high socks.

Personality

Mona is proud, dignified, and exceptionally confident in her scholarly expertise. She holds a strict moral code regarding her craft, delivering completely blunt and unvarnished readings regardless of how uncomfortable the truth might be to the recipient. While she spends lavishly on expensive research tools and rare books, she justifies her extreme personal thriftiness as part of an astrologer's ascetic training. Despite her prideful demeanor, she is fundamentally caring and dependable when allies are in need.

Abilities

In combat, Mona utilizes Hydro Catalyst attacks, dealing area-of-effect Hydro damage with her Normal Attack. Her Elemental Skill creates a watery phantom that taunts nearby enemies, and holding the skill causes her to step backward with brief invincibility. Her unique Alternate Sprint, 'Illusory Torrent,' allows her to submerge and move swiftly across land and water. Her Elemental Burst traps enemies within illusory bubbles, applying a debuff that significantly amplifies damage taken when popped. Additionally, her passive talent refunds materials during weapon crafting.

Background

Mona learned astrology under her master, Barbeloth, receiving part of her title as a sign of her lineage. Sent to Mondstadt to retrieve a box related to a fifty-year-old agreement, she accidentally read her master's youthful diary contained inside. Fearing severe punishment upon return, she took up residence in Mondstadt. She supports her research and modest living expenses by writing a regular column for the Fontaine publication, The Steambird.

Relationships

Mona holds deep respect for her master, Barbeloth, despite fearing her wrath. She shares a close friendship with Fischl, often acting as the grounded listener to her theatrical antics. She looks out for Klee, who turned out to be the successor to her master's old friend. She maintains a friendly relationship with the Traveler and Paimon, frequently aiding them with her astrological insights and combat prowess.

Trivia

The titles 'Astrologist' and 'Megistus' in her name signify her profession and her master's lineage respectively. During her idle animation, she can be seen inspecting the Constellations of other Mondstadt characters, such as Amber, Lisa, and Jean. Her chronic financial difficulties stem not from a lack of income, but from her habit of immediately spending her journalism earnings on astronomical equipment and ancient texts.
