Overview
Furina de Fontaine is a central character in Genshin Impact, originally serving as the public face of the Hydro Archon Focalors who ruled the nation of Fontaine. Admired for her theatrical charm and dramatic flair, she commanded the devotion of her citizens as the deity of justice. In truth, she was a human vessel tasked with secretly performing the role of a god for five centuries to shield her people from a fatal prophecy without alerting the Heavenly Principles. Following the climax of Fontaine's crisis, she stepped down from her divine role to live as an ordinary human artist, eventually acquiring a Hydro Vision.
Appearance
Furina features gradient hair blending white and blue tones, complemented by a large ahoge. Her hairstyle and color theme alter according to her active Arkhe alignment: in Pneuma, she adopts a blue-and-white outfit with long hair, while in Ousia, she wears a black-and-blue outfit with a short bob cut. Her heterochromatic blue eyes feature a dark blue left eye, a light blue right eye, and drop-shaped mismatched pupils. Her attire consists of a top hat, a blue ascot with a brooch, a jacket, shorts, mismatched black and white gloves, a thigh strap, white socks, and leather shoes.
Personality
On the surface, Furina maintains an overconfident and flamboyant personality, engaging audiences with dramatic poses and grand speeches. She has a strong fondness for sweet treats and desserts. Beneath her prideful exterior, however, she is deeply anxious and easily flustered when logic fails her or when confronted under pressure. Despite enduring overwhelming loneliness and crying in secret for five hundred years, she demonstrated incredible resolve by keeping up her public act to ensure the safety of Fontaine.
Abilities
Furina uses a sword in battle and unleashes Hydro elemental magic. She is capable of shifting between Pneuma and Ousia Arkhe alignments by executing a Heavy Attack, which alters her appearance and normal attack follow-ups (Spiritbreath Thorn for Pneuma, Surging Blade for Ousia). Her Elemental Skill, Salon Solitaire, adapts to her alignment: in Ousia, it summons three Salon Members (Mademoiselle Crabaletta, Surintendante Chevalmarin, and Gentilhomme Usher) to attack enemies at the cost of party HP, while in Pneuma, it summons the Singer of Many Waters to heal active allies. Her abilities provide party-wide combat buffs linked to HP fluctuations.
Background
Furina was originally an Oceanid transformed into a human by the former Hydro Archon, Egeria. When Egeria passed down a fatal prophecy threatening Fontaine, the Hydro Archon Focalors devised a plan to deceive the Heavenly Principles by severing her divine consciousness from her human body, naming the physical body Furina. Cursed with immortality for as long as Focalors' divinity endured, Furina bore the burden of performing as the Hydro Archon for 500 years while Focalors accumulated energy inside the Oratrice Mecanique d'Analyse Cardinale. During a trial at the Opera Epiclese, Focalors executed her divine self to restore full authority to the Hydro Dragon King, resolving the crisis and granting Furina her freedom as a regular human.
Relationships
Furina maintained a centuries-long partnership with Fontaine's Chief Justice, Neuvillette, who managed state affairs alongside her and later helped secure her independence. She was created by her divine counterpart, Focalors, who placed the weight of the five-hundred-year deception onto her shoulders. She harbors deep dread toward the Fatui Harbinger Arlecchino, who ambushed her in secret and uncovered her lack of a Gnosis and her underlying curse. She also forged complex ties with Champion Duelist Clorinde and the Traveler, both of whom played key roles in the trial that exposed her true nature.
Trivia
Furina's signature culinary dish is "Pour la Justice." In Fontaine's film festival, the top honor awarded to outstanding filmmakers is officially named the "Furina Award." During her reign, she reshaped an ancient traditional festival centered on collecting pure water into a holiday focused on collecting sweet desserts. Early in her rule, she oversaw the construction of the Opera Epiclese by hiring local workers and offering generous compensation to boost the local economy.
