The Raiden Shogun is the sovereign ruler of Inazuma and the Electro Archon among The Seven in Genshin Impact. Bearing the Archon name Beelzebul and the personal name Raiden Ei, she originally served as the shadow double to her twin sister, Raiden Makoto. To preserve her divine entity against temporal erosion, she constructed an autonomous puppet to govern Inazuma while secluding her own consciousness inside the Plane of Euthymia to meditate upon absolute eternity.

Appearance

She possesses deep purple eyes with a distinct mole beneath one eye, and long purple hair gathered into a low braid adorned with a floral hairpin. Her outfit features a short purple off-the-shoulder kimono secured by a red obi sash, accented with a single piece of shoulder armor. She wears black thigh-high stockings paired with high-heeled sandals, and manifests her tachi, Musou Isshin, directly from her chest area during combat.

Personality

The puppet ruler functions as a stoic, unyielding entity that strictly adheres to established rules in pursuit of eternity. In contrast, the underlying persona of Ei is that of a introspective warrior who harbors deep grief over her lost companions. Long isolated from the outside world, she exhibits a naive unfamiliarity with contemporary culture such as photography and light novels. She has a strong penchant for sweets like Dango Milk, contrasting with her total inability to cook.

Abilities

She wields both polearms and swords backed by Electro elemental power. Her Elemental Skill, Transcendence: Baleful Omen, deals Electro damage and grants allies the Eye of Stormy Judgment, which triggers coordinated Electro strikes and boosts allies' Elemental Burst damage. Her Elemental Burst, Secret Art: Musou Shinsetsu, consumes accumulated resolve to deliver the Musou no Hitotachi strike and shifts her into the Musou Isshin state, converting her attacks to Electro, restoring energy for the entire party, and granting immunity to Electro-Charged reaction damage.

Background

During the Archon War, Ei acted as the martial shadow warrior for her twin sister, Raiden Makoto, who established the Inazuma Shogunate. Following the sudden death of Makoto and her close comrades in the cataclysm five centuries ago, Ei became consumed by a desire to freeze her nation in an immutable state to prevent further loss. She engineered an autonomous puppet body to govern while secluding her consciousness. Her enforcement of the Vision Hunt Decree eventually precipitated internal conflict, which was ultimately resolved when the Traveler and Yae Miko helped her recognize the value of mortal aspirations.

Relationships

Ei was deeply devoted to her late twin sister, Raiden Makoto, whom she served as a body double. Her primary remaining familiar is Yae Miko, the chief priestess of the Grand Narukami Shrine, with whom she shares a close relationship and to whom she entrusted her Gnosis. Historically, she was bonded with companions including Kitsune Saiguu, Mikoshi Chiyo, and Sasayuri. She also created the initial puppet prototype Kunikuzushi, whom she chose to leave unconstrained. Though she initially deemed the Traveler a threat to her absolute eternity, their confrontation eventually fostered mutual respect.
