Yanfei

Overview

Yanfei is a four-star Pyro character in Genshin Impact who wields a catalyst in battle. As a half-adeptus born after the archon wars during a period of peace, she is one of the rare adepti who never formed a divine contract with Rex Lapis to protect Liyue. Instead, she serves the people of Liyue Harbor as a highly skilled and renowned legal adviser, dedicated to maintaining societal order through her deep mastery of the law.

Appearance

Yanfei has long pinkish-orange hair with an M-shaped fringe, green eyes, and white antlers protruding from her head. She wears a distinctive red hat, a cropped bare-shoulder top revealing her midriff, puffy detached sleeves with pom-poms, and a red skirt layered over black shorts. Her outfit is completed with red boots. Subtle scales matching her skin tone can also be seen on her hands, side, and ankles.

Personality

Yanfei is lively, energetic, highly articulate, and quick-witted. While exceptionally sharp and able to memorize complex legal codes, she is not rigidly bound by doctrine, preferring to find flexible solutions within the law. Driven by her motto to understand all rules in order to avoid being bound by them, she expertly balances legal principles with human emotion. However, she finds emotional, domestic disputes difficult to handle.

Abilities

Yanfei utilizes Pyro catalyst attacks with strong homing properties in combat. Landing normal attacks, using her Elemental Skill, or casting her Elemental Burst generates Scarlet Seals. These seals reduce her stamina consumption and amplify the area and power of her Charged Attack, which smashes a massive fiery stamp down on enemies. Additionally, her passive exploration talent reveals nearby Liyue local resources on the mini-map.

Background

Born to an adeptus father and a human mother after the dynamic archon wars, Yanfei grew up in peace and was raised under the care of Madame Ping after her parents left to travel the world. She chose to fully integrate into human society as a premier legal consultant rather than live as a recluse adeptus. Leveraging her keen legal intellect, she frequently assists citizens and travelers in solving complex disputes and navigating dangerous situations.

Relationships

Yanfei regards Madame Ping as a motherly guardian and holds fellow half-adeptus Ganyu in high esteem, referring to her as her senior. Kuki Shinobu studied law under Yanfei and respects her as an academic senior. She is also close pen pals with Eula, forming a bond free from social burdens. Ningguang views Yanfei with great respect for her ability to spot legal loopholes and improve Liyue's statutes.

Trivia

Yanfei's favorite food is tofu due to its consistent availability and light taste, whereas she avoids cold dishes based on advice from her father. Her visual design features, such as her traditional hat and combat theme, draw thematic inspiration from the Xiezhi, a legendary Chinese mythical creature representing justice and fairness.
