Overview

Yaoyao is a playable character from Liyue in the open-world RPG Genshin Impact. Wielding a polearm and holding a Dendro Vision, she is the youngest disciple of Streetward Rambler (Madame Ping). Despite her tender age, she is exceptionally responsible and caring toward others. Loved by both the Adepti and the residents of Liyue Harbor, she spends her time traveling between the bustling city and the tranquil mountains.

Appearance

Yaoyao has brown hair styled with blunt bangs, sidelocks, and twin braided hair loops fastened with large bows and bells, accompanied by golden eyes. She wears a Liyue-style long-sleeved dress paired with short boots over bare feet. On her back, she carries a woven basket holding Yuegui, a yellow, rabbit-like mechanical puppet given to her by Cloud Retainer. Her alternate outfit, Rainlit Bamboo Reverie, adopts a refreshing blue-green and white color palette reminiscent of bamboo and rain.

Personality

Yaoyao is extremely kind-hearted, attentive, and nurturing. Although she is the youngest among her master's disciples, she routinely acts like an older sister, looking after her senior fellow disciples and friends with great devotion. She is eager to learn and highly diligent, though her extreme youth occasionally leads to funny misunderstandings when trying to apply complex knowledge. Energetic and warm, she loves the lively atmosphere of Liyue Harbor and constantly goes out of her way to comfort and help those around her.

Abilities

In battle, Yaoyao utilizes her polearm to perform up to four consecutive spear strikes and charging attacks. Her core combat mechanics revolve around the mechanical device Yuegui. Her Elemental Skill deploys throwing-type Yueguis that launch White Jade Radishes, which explode upon impact to deal area-of-effect Dendro damage to foes and restore the health of nearby allies based on her maximum HP. Upon activating her Elemental Burst, she enters a specialized state that boosts her movement speed and Dendro Resistance, summoning multiple jumping Yueguis and flinging radishes while running or jumping to quickly heal the entire party.

Background

Even before becoming Madame Ping's student, Yaoyao possessed a gentle and helpful nature that earned her the affection of the Adepti. Cloud Retainer created the protective automaton Yuegui specifically to keep her safe, while Madame Ping tutors her in martial arts and scholarship. During events such as the Lantern Rite, she regularly helps gather medicinal herbs in Qingce Village, assists travelers in navigating Liyue, and contributes to public festivities with her cheerful helpfulness.

Relationships

She shares a bond akin to a real grandmother and granddaughter with her master, Madame Ping. Her overprotective care for her senior disciple, Xiangling, often leaves Xiangling lightheartedly wondering who is actually the older sister. She is a close friend of Qiqi, fully understanding Qiqi's memory difficulties and showing her warm acceptance. Furthermore, she regularly watches over Ganyu's well-being and is deeply cherished by Cloud Retainer (Xianyun).

Trivia

Her Constellation is Osmathus, named after the sweet osmanthus plant. Although her design was publicly revealed in official artwork shortly after the game's initial launch, more than two years passed before she became officially playable in Version 3.4. In the Japanese version of the game, her name is spelled in katakana rather than kanji, as the character '瑶' is not part of the standard Japanese kanji set.
