Overview
Rerir is a antagonist in Genshin Impact, introduced during the Archon Quest chapter Song of the Void Moon. He is one of the Five Sinners who betrayed the ancient nation of Khaenri'ah to gain transcendent power, earning the title Rächer of Solnari. Responsible for the abyssal Wild Hunt disaster plaguing the region of Nodokale, Rerir was shattered into thousands of fragments scattered across space and time after the cataclysm. Operating in a dramatically weakened state, he obsessively gathers his missing pieces to regain his former strength.
Appearance
Rerir is a muscular male with medium-length greyish-white hair featuring an M-shaped fringe that falls over one eye, having originally possessed brown hair. His eyes transitioned from blue to purple with distinct slit pupils. Visual details include bandages wrapped across his body, clawed fingers, trousers, and a long cloak.
Personality
Originally an ordinary man who sought a peaceful life with his beloved, Rerir's psyche was shattered by the cruel duties imposed on him, the corrupting whispers of the abyss, and a tragic misunderstanding. Driven into deep despair, he transformed into a vengeful figure consumed by hatred, willing to resort to deception and underhanded tactics to achieve his goals. Despite his ruthless behavior as a Sinner, he remains at core a tragic, ordinary person whose acts of malice stem from grief, later showing profound remorse for his horrific mistakes.
Abilities
Possessing a form of immortality, Rerir can endure and act even while shattered into scattered pieces. His primary signature ability is perfect shapeshifting, allowing him to flawless impersonate the appearance, voice, and behavior of others without detection. He can manipulate and absorb Kuuvaki energy to reinforce his physical strength, command hordes of the Wild Hunt, and project powerful abyssal barriers to restrain or crush his opponents.
Background
Raised as an orphan, Rerir served as a secret executioner for King Irmin of Khaenri'ah, tasked with purging remnants of the fallen Crimson Moon Dynasty. He concealed his bloodstained profession from his fiancée, Solindis, a researcher who unknowingly held Crimson Moon lineage. As King Irmin's bloody purges expanded to the innocent, Rerir grew despondent and ultimately rebelled when Solindis appeared on his execution list. During the chaotic night of the assault on the palace, Rerir rushed to save her, but Solindis mistook his presence as an assassination attempt and threw herself into the Moon Gate. Devastated by grief, Rerir absorbed abyssal power alongside the other Sinners and leaped after her, causing his immortal body to be shattered into thousands of pieces across time.
Relationships
Rerir held deep affection for his fiancée, Solindis, though his hidden identity and fateful choices tragically led to her throwing herself into the Moon Gate. He was once close friends with Dainsleif, the Twilight Sword, but betrayed him during the palace assault to embrace abyssal power. He frequently sought counsel from Vedrfolnir the Prophet, whose cryptic warnings fueled his anxiety. Alongside Rhinedottir, Surtalogi, and Hroptatyr, he forms the Five Sinners of Khaenri'ah. In the modern era, he made a pact with the Fatui Harbinger Dottore to gather his scattered fragments.
Trivia
The name Rerir originates from the figure of the same name in the Norse Völsunga saga. The German word Rächer included in his title translates directly to 'avenger'. His desperate, agonizing cry upon being thwarted during the Nodokale storyline became a well-known quote among fans of the game.
