Overview

Lumine is the female protagonist of Genshin Impact, a traveler from another world who previously journeyed across stars alongside her twin brother, Aether. After arriving in Teyvat, she was separated from her brother by an unknown deity and stripped of her former powers. Upon awakening centuries later, she sets out across the seven nations of Teyvat to reunite with her lost sibling, though if not chosen as the player character, she instead serves as the enigmatic leader of the Abyss Order.

Appearance

She features short blonde hair with M-shaped bangs, long framing sidelocks, and ornamental flowers in her hair, paired with bright golden eyes. Her outfit consists of a sleeveless white high-low dress exposing her shoulders, complemented by a short cape, detached sleeves, and white thigh-high boots. The glowing accents on her clothing alter color depending on the element she is currently resonated with.

Personality

She possesses a calm, practical, and vigilant demeanor, shaped by her extensive journeying through various realms. While often quiet, she displays a sharp wit, occasionally teasing her travel companion or demanding fair compensation for her efforts. Beneath her pragmatic exterior lies a deeply compassionate heart that resists injustice and helps those in need, though she becomes intensely serious whenever matters concerning her lost sibling arise.

Abilities

She wields a single-handed sword in combat and can manipulate various elements without a Vision by resonating with the Statues of the Seven across Teyvat. Unaffected by the memory-altering properties of Irminsul or the toxic corruption of the Abyss, she has the unique capacity to absorb and neutralize abyssal energy. In Natlan, she can temporarily possess native dragons to utilize their mobility and traits. Compared to her twin brother, her movement speed is slightly slower, but her sword strike animation rate is faster.

Background

After their homeworld was destroyed, Lumine and her twin brother drifted through countless dimensions before arriving in Teyvat. When attempting to depart, they were confronted and defeated by an unknown god, causing Lumine to be sealed away into a long sleep. Centuries later, she awakens alone, rescues Paimon from the water, and embarks on a realm-spanning journey across the seven nations of Teyvat to find her brother and uncover the truth of the world.

Relationships

Her main goal is finding her twin brother, Aether, who is her sole remaining family. She shares an inseparable bond of trust and camaraderie with Paimon, whom she rescued at the start of her journey and who serves as her guide and constant companion. She also collaborates with the mysterious wanderer Dainsleif to investigate the Abyss Order and unearth mysteries surrounding Khaenri'ah.

Trivia

Her official name is localized as Hotaru in Japanese (meaning firefly) and Lumine in English. While players can assign her a custom name and birthday for gameplay purposes, Lumine remains her canonical identity within the story lore.
